Hi all,
I Started using SJW 7 days ago, and after a couple of days on the 3-a-day routine I (impaitenly i know) decided it wasnt working & opted for the 3 at once at night route. Now it makes me extremley tired (which is a good thing for me cause i havent slept well for months!) but i am finding it very hard to get up in the mornings & when i do, a couple of hours after I am finding myself really down and weepy untill i take another tablet (that makes 4 a day i know!)

Any suggestions on differing the dose at all? - i know these things take a while to get into your system etc - and to be honest I am hoping that the tiredness at night never fades...

One thing i have to say also is that SJW has really suppressed my need for alcohol, although i didnt drink every single day - 7 days clear is a record for me!

I am not sure what other dose you might try other than spreading them out. I would like to say cheers (no pun intended) with being able to slow down the drinking. I used to drink every day as well (for about 13 years). I REALLY wish I would have known about SJW when I was quitting. I just went cold turkey which sucked. Not so much the physical aspect of it (which was pretty brutal), but the weeks and months after I initially quit. The mental craving is what drove me nuts. I drank nothing for about two years. Now I will have 1-6 beers on the weekend or possibly some wine instead. But, I don't have the cravings anymore. I don't feel as if I need it to be normal. For the two years I was completely sober and not taking SJW or anything for my social anxiety, I thought I was going to lose it. Anyway, I am glad to hear someone else is being helped in the same way I am with SJW. Good luck!

I agree with Mike - there aren't really any other dosage options...taking one three times a day with food and lots of water is from my experience the most effective way of achieving and maintaining a stable mood....also which-ever dosage frequency you choose, it will take the same amount of time to get into your system.

Finally, it's good that SJW supresses your desire for booze! - try to stay clear of it for the first month or so anyway, because SJW can cause massive (2 days long for me!) hangovers.

PS. I'm also in the UK (gather you are too by the flag), let me know which brand you are taking....also if you find it doesn't have the desired affect I can recommend the one by Quest Vitamins....I have taken it for a while and find it works well.

Thanks for the replies guys :-)
mike: glad you just social drink now - thats great news. I was a pretty heavey drinker in my teens-early 20's (28 now) but the past few years ive been slipping in & out off binge drinking and the past 6 months or so ive drank at least every other day, despite having a scare of being rushed in hospital for sugery for a drink related perforated ulcer!!! as said, I havent had one craving for drink in the past 8 days now which i definitley attribute to SJW. Its like a huge weight lifted off me and i intend to stay off it for as long as i possibly can :)

David: I just picked up a 3-a-day Kira packet of SJW - cost £10 for 50 tablets - i did look at cheaper alternatives while in the shop - but got very confused about the amounts that were in each brand of tablet as their unit measurements etc seemed to differ....... any recommendations appreciated though, as i am not working at the moment & its pretty expensive for me.

Thanks again guys :)

Just out of curiosity, is a perforated ulcer where you have a stomach ulcer that is accompanied with bleeding. Where you might throw up blood or have blood in your stool? I have never thrown up blood but back in the day, had seen some in my stool before. Was pretty scary. What did they do to resolve the problem for you? You mention surgery. I still sometime's get some wicked stomach pains (ulcer related no doubt) when I eat real spicy foods several days in a row. I usually take Pepcid AC or Tagemet HD which helps. To you have any ideas as to what made you start drinking so much so early? Not that I want to know, just curious if you have some ideas. When I started finding the root cause of my drinking (social/performance anxiety mainly), it made a huge difference in being able to get it under control. Today marks my third week on SJW and I have to tell you, I have not felt this good in years. I feel like i am myself again (without alcohol) which I have not felt in many years. Good luck to you and keep us posted.

I know that some people on this froum take Kira and find it effective. It can be confusing at first with all the measurements etc, a guide to what is normally the case (and what I take)is:

Each tablet is 333mg
Three a day = 999mg daily (obviously!!)
The concentration of Hypericin (the active ingredient)is 0.3%

The brand i take is called Quest Vitamins and it costs £14.99 for 150 tablets - I'm not working either so it works out well!!, they seem to work very well and you can buy them in healthfood shops or online (free delivery) at: http://www.questvitamins.co.uk

Cheers

DAvid
