I am a 19 yr old girl from TX. My father has been taking SJW for years for his depression and it seems to help, over the past year i have had boughts with depression while away at college, but i havent seen anyone for the problem, is SJW for me? Would it help? I just hate feeling this way, and i have turned to alcohol several times to make me feel better, but it really didnt in the end. I was just wanting to know someones opinion on this.

The only real way to know if it works for you is to try it! Start taking one tablet three times daily (or whatever the instructions say) and keep it up for a month or so - after this time you'll be able to evaluate whether it has a tangible effect or not. As far as alcohol goes, it has the opposite effect (it's a very powerful depressant) and I would advise you to stay off it at least until your body becomes used to SJW.
SJW may well help you, college is a uniquely stressful time and some need something to help pull them through it....I realised I was suffering from depression about the age of 20 when I was at university (I'm in the UK) - I'm 22 now and can definately say that SJW helps alot - and it certainly got me through the final year of my studies!
Give it a try and good luck!! Let me know if you need anymore help!

Your not an Aggie are you? :) Just thought I would put my two cents in. I used to use alcohol to medicate myslef for anxiety before I knew what was wrong with me (anxiety). And I can tell you it got into a really bad, vicious cycle that probably tore my liver and kidneys all to hell. I would agree with David, don't start turning to alcohol to feel better. Because after a while, you feel like you have to have it to feel normal. Then it will screw up your job, your health, relationships, etc. And it is no fun at all trying to come off of it if you become alcoholic. Physically it is bad but getting over it mentally is really tough. I only speak because I have already traveled that path. I think it is great that you at least know what is going on with yourself. Hopefully this will keep your drinking for relief in check. Now, I do drink 1-6 beers on the weekends. But, I can control it so much easier now that I know what is causing my symptoms and that I can treat the anxiety. SJW has worked real well so far for it and my mood has been incredible the last 2 weeks (3 weeks into taking it). The one thing you might remember is that it might have no effect or even aggravate your symptoms at first (at least it does with anxiety, cannot really speak for depression). Hope it works out for you. Good luck and keep us posted. Go Horns!
