Topic Title: Started Perika 3 days ago--side effects?
| | "Started Perika 3 days ago--side effects?" , Wed 3 Aug 13:50
Hi, I recently started St. John's wort for anxiety after a horrible stint with Celexa. I started taking Safeway" brand SJW until I read this great site and noticed that Perika is much better due to the regulated Hyperforin. Well anyway, this is the 3rd day for me on Perika and I may be experiencing some side effects but I am wondering if I am imagining it? I have DEFINATELY been experiecing some very vivid dreams. Also its seems like my anxiety has gotten much worse. Is there anyone else that has taken SJW for longer than me that had these effects in the beginning? I am kind of considering stopping the SJW but need to know if these things will ever pass?!!

Many people experience vivid dreams... some people like that, but either way they will probably be less intense over time. As for anxiety, it could be caused by anything and after three days it's really too soon to say. If you're worried, try taking a smaller dose for a week or two and then go back to the full amount.
Not wanting to upset you but I really wish you had posted this in the Questions and Answers section, instead of here. I put up a big notice for people to read, but no one reads it. I'm not sure what I need to go to convince everyone to post questions in the right section... [sigh]
This section, Experiences, is for people who have been on SJW for a month at the very least, and more likely three, six months or more... so they can post about their experiences. Can everyone please pay attention to this?! Thanks. [end rant]

Hi Kelly,
I have a thought about the "no questions please" notice - it would stand out more if the text was in red (or some other contrasting colour).
Just an idea...

Vivid dreams and increased anxiety have been mentioned by others as side effects. There are also many other potential side effects, many of which frequently subside or disappear with time -- often within a few days.
You don't say what dose of Perika you are taking, but I have noticed the instructions on most sjw advise you to start taking a full 900 mg. at once. I think it is way smarter to start out with a smaller dose and increase it to the recommended 900 as side effects ease -- even splitting pills if necessary -- over a period of days or weeks as necessary, cutting back immediately if anything which you can't live with on a tral basis occurs.
You might want to try this approach if it is not what you're doing already. It could hopefully help minimize side effects, give you a chance to adapt gradually to any change, and give you needed time to experience any positive effects -- help not usually experienced in just a few days, but rather six weeks or so. Wishing you well.

So I'm not the only one having these vivid dreams, I was wondering if this was a side effect of SJW or if it was just me advancing to another stage of spirituality As far as the anxiety goes I can say that SJW decreased my anxiety a lot, that is what I am taking it for in the first place. Peace

I Just Want To Update this post by saying that after 2 weeks the "side effects" I was experiencing have completely gone away. I have noticed a mild reduction in my anxiety and am very pleased. The only side effect I experience now is just some minor fatigue. Thanks for all the advice
