Topic Title: SJW

St. John's Wort is now banned in Ireland. (yes we all know it does have some side effects - but I believe, not enough(if you are aware of them, to prevent its use). However, to treat my mild depression (although I have experienced a lot worse in the past), St. John's Wort is very good at keeping it at bay (I didn't realise this until I stopped taking it!)The reality of this being - that today my husband drove for five hours to obtain this for me (not having had the benefit of it for the last two months) and then I returned to this site (as one I belived in - I know you have been there...) to find the correct dosage.... Thank you

You can still import it though. Not a fabulous option, but you may be able to find a site with reasonable shipping costs. And I read you can import it from Northern Ireland as well, so it may not be that much in shipping from there.

Thanks Adensmommy,
For trying to help - but in fact my husband actually drove to Northern Ireland to get it (hence the five hours - there and back)We had considered all the options - a day trip to UK perhaps or the alternative option - Internet! However, most internet sites excluded Ireland when you went to purchase.
I'll get by for now - thanks

This is the funniest thing I've heard this month...Imagine watching "COPS" in Ireland -Ma'am, is there anything in the vehicle that might interest me as a police officer? -Uhm...no..no officer -Well look what I found in the glovebox compartment...a bottle of Perika... ::code 3 officer in need of assistance at the corner of Perry and Walsh:: Ma'am you are in deep trouble here, you realize I'm going to have to arrest you for possesion ::Dispatch, dispatch, foot pursuit south on Perry, she just took off on me, I need a unit to cut her off at...:: Yeah...

Hi Robbiemerril,
Actually, although your mail was extremely iritating to me at 7am this morning, I did have a good laugh later in the day.... When I came home from work this evening I pointed out to my husband that I had looked up this site to ascertain the dosage (which happened to be 3 times recommended on the package!)- to which he replied that I would be "had" for drugs - then I remembered and mentioned your mail! we both had a good laugh.
(Actually the ban is true and for quite some time now - go do some research on the internet!...

If this is true it's pretty worrying. What grounds has it been banned under?

Hi D-Alien
I have not read much around this - but I believe there are some instances where it interacts with a variety of other drugs - the most common being the contraceptive pill. (and possibly anesthetics?) I am not sure ... In addition there is now talk of banning (in Ireland) a number of other health supplements over the next few years - including high dosages of vitamin C (unfortunately I do not have a lot of information in this regard either) - sorry...

Ireland only banned St. John's Wort as an over-the-counter drug. It is still available just only with a prescription.

Yes,
You are absolutely correct!
But would I be on this site if I wanted to go to my own G.P. (General Practitioner)(family doctor)for advice....

This is a disgrace! This is exactly what they did with L-tryptophan, which until recently was only available by prescription in the US, even now it's too expensive. It's hard to see these things as anything but deliberate attempts to force people to take pharmaceuticals or pay a premium price for natural supplements.
