I tried a bottle Perika for about 3 weeks and didn't feel any better. No improvement in mood, sleep, or energy level. I tried a few other brands too and they didn't work for me either.

Hey Jerry,
Just like any other antidepressant(an SSRI for example) you have to give it at least four weeks or more at a high enough dosage for it to fully kick in. From what you were saying you used a bottle of Perika over a three week period and my guess would be that you took about 3 pills a day. That is not enough time and not a high enough dosage for it to really kick in. Aim for six or eight weeks and after the fourth week consider doubling your dose.
I have been on Amoryn ( I AM NOT ADVERTISING!!! :-) for four weeks now and I still won't say anything about the effects because I am aiming for six weeks and then I will fully evaluate and tell everybody how it went.
I started with two pills of Amoryn a day (hyperforin wise that would equate six pills of Perika) and after about two weeks I upped my dose to four pills of Amoryn a day (hyperforin wise that would equate with 12 pills of Perika!)Perika has 3% hyperforin and Amorin is supposed to have 5%. The reason I am saying this is: raise your dose, whatever SJW you use, and give it more time than three weeks before you decide it's not working for you.
They have some interesting info on the Amoryn website about some recent studies that show hyperforin to be more effective than Paxil. I am not in any way suggest that you buy Amoryn, I am just trying to help you get more info and then you make your own decision.
When I bought the Amoryn they were offering a 60 day risk free trial and I decided to give it a try and if it doesn't work return it. They are not offering that trial anymore. It seemed like a pretty fair deal to me: If it doesn't work send it back.
Ahem...and let me reiterate: I AM NOT ADVERTISING FOR AMORYN! :-)
Anyway, good luck Jerry whatever you decide to do.
Peace

I really find it hard to believe that it could take 6 weeks to start working. I would have expected to feel at least some benefit by now, but I haven't noticed any difference. I have taken SSRI's before and felt a difference within 1 week, and, with 5-htp, within 1 hour. In addition, I was taking some other brands of SJW prior to the Perika.

Regardless, I will continue to take some of my leftover SJW of another brand, along with my other supplements that I am currently experimenting with (L-Tryptophan, Inositol, methylcobalamin). But I don't really feel it would be worth it to buy any more.

Don't take my word for it, the recent studies they conducted with SJW and Paxil (in which they found SJW superior to Paxil) were 6 or 8 weeks long, using the high hyperforin dosages that I told you about. For people that were nonresponsive they doubled the doses in the middle of the study. These are recent studies, they talk about them on amoryn.com but there are other places on the web you could read about them. One of them is I believe hypericum.com
Personally I never took any prescription medication, the four weeks for the SSRI to fully kick in is the information that I took from the books that I read and the medication information online. I have some Paxil stashed in my lock box but I will not use it after reading about all the horrible side effects that people are experiencing with it.
Anyway wish you the best and hope you find what you are looking for.
Peace
Robbie
