I just started taking SJW and I'm actually stopped right now, because it did affect my birth control, I started bleeding and couldn't have my annual pap done if I was bleeding, so I stopped...but I went to the doctor for the first time today about my anxiety and panic attacks and they (suprise) tried to dose me up on Paxil and I've no intention of taking that crap...my doctor told me not to take SJW because it's not FDA approved...well think of Vioxx!!! The FDA approved that and people are seriously messed up right now, one of the biggest drug recalls in history I heard...I think they just want your money and they don't make it off of SJW. I think it did have me feeling better there for a few days. :) I will write more when I have taken it longer but all I can report for now is that it affects birth control for sure!!! But I'm going to stop taking the pill anyway, I figure extra hormones can't be helping me either :) so best wishes to everyone suffering with depression or anxiety my heart goes out to you I know how bad it can get....We'll all get through it!!!!! :)

When my doctor gave me paxil (6 yrs ago), I asked him about SJW since it was natural and has been around for so much longer than paxil. His reponse was that SJW and paxil would give me the same response but why bother with the sjw since the paxil was free.(nice health care system) I eventually stopped with the paxil.

SJW, according to experiences and technical information, reacts with a lot of medication and birth control pills are one of them. Most people who take SJW are not on any prescribed medication I would think. I guess this is the only and worst drawback of using SJW. Generally, it's one of the best alternatives (if not the best) to prescribed anti-depressants which have the least side-effects alone. With other medications, SJW could be a nightmare and not recommended. People who are ill and on medication should stop taking SJW until they recover and are off from the medication.

Hi
I tried SJW in a berbal drink - not one bit of good then I tried it in tablet form and all it did for me was make me extremely agitated. It is supposed to be used for apathy in depression not for depressive states which suffer anxiety and panic attacks - it actually makes this worse. I had the worst 2 weeks of anxiety and panic shaking and stuttering and then realised what it was. I now take 5htp and would recommend them to anyone who suffers with the agigitated form of depression ( I have suffered now for over 12 years) mine started with post natal depression and gradually became worse. Until about 6 weeks ago I started a course of Omega fish oil, Primrose oil and 5htp and can honestly say I have never felt better (touch wood) in 12 years.
