I've suffered from depression and anxiety for over 20 years, although for long periods I have remained relatively happy, and have been able to function normally on a day to day basis. However, in December 2003 I became very depressed and visited my doctor - I was desperate for help and was prescribed anti-depressants. After 1 month, I decided that I wanted to come off the anti-depressants as I felt "spaced out" all the time, and that was making me feel even worse. Throughout 2004, I managed to keep a reasonable grip on things, and gradually started to feel a little better, but come December, I felt myself slipping back into depression again. It was then that I came across this website, and it made me feel so much better to see that I was not the only person to feel this way, and that there was something else I could try. I started taking 900 mg of SJW per day on 01/01/05, but have subsequently reduced this to 600 mg, as I was finding that I was waking up in the middle of the night. Over the last 4 weeks I have started to really feel the benefits of SJW, and feel more capable of dealing with stress, and my mood has lightened. My New Years resolution was to try to bring my self out of this depressive cycle, and I'm hoping that with the aid of SJW and exercise ( I run around 20 miles a week), I can finally get my life together.
Does anyone have any helpful hints for getting a good nights sleep though?

I have CFIDS, fibromyalgia and a variety of immune system disorders and have trouble sleeping. I now use calcium and magnesium to help me sleep. The ratio is 2|1. For instance, 400 mg calcium and 200 mg magnesium. Melatonin did not work for me, nor did Ambien. The other thing that seemed to help me is wrist braces (that you would buy for carpal tunnel). They seem to work on an accupressure principle. Whatever works!

Thanks for your reply. I have just started using a couple of drops of Lavender Oil on my pillow when I go to bed, as well as taking 1 300mg SJW tablet about an hour before I go to bed. This seems to have worked for the first two nights, but I will certainly take up your suggestion, should things change. Once again, thanks.
