"Going off Efexor-xr" , Tue 23 Nov 17:28

Hi ,
I am a 45f from australia and been on Efexor-xr for about 5 years now. I feel I am more addicted to them now as I have tired to go off them once and went from 300mg to 225mg after a week the withdrawals got to me. Has anybody got any helpful hints to get off them.. I have also put on massive weight and my sex drive has gone down. I feel I am a lot happier inside now and if I could get off them I would be fine........ or am I just kidding myself.... After some advice. My email addy is [email protected]

my msn is [email protected]

I found that when I forgot to take it the withdrawls started, this worried me (I was on 150mg)
after much trial and error I slowly decreased the dose to half a 37mg tablet a day (approx 18mg) even then I still had withdrawl problems same syptoms as others have described
However my depression did not come back to overwhelm me
I opted to switch to zoloft and basically went from efexor to zoloft without a couple of weeks wait
the usual withdrawl syptoms did not really appear just a day of "yuk"
now I am on 25mg zoloft daily and when I have forgotten to take the tablet I have not felt any bad withdrawl syptoms. Hopefully soon to try life SSRI free for a while

Hello,

I was on Effexor for about 6 weeks, so I can't really compare. But I can say is to do it SLOW! Getting the 'brain shocks' yet?

When I say slow, I mean stay at 225mg for a month, then lower it down every month after that. Effexor and Paxil seem to be the worst for withdrawls. I, myself, will try everything in my power to avoid SSRI's and I need something for my horrible depression.

I am going to give you a link to a page that can help you a LOT more than I can. There is actually a post named "Effexor withdrawl is HELL!" on that board.

Here's the link, I hope I helped at least a little...

http://www.healthboards.com/boards/index.php?
Go to the "anxiety" and the "depression" links. Those people know a lot about meds and withdrawls. Sorry, I dont know ho to hyperlink on this site.

Did Effexor help you? It didn't me.
