Topic Title: Any real users have real success with SJW?
| | "Any real users have real success with SJW?" , Wed 13 Oct 04:46
On an average of reading most these posts, I seem to see more negative results or "nothing happening" results from users taking SJW. I am just wondering as I tried it for about 3-4 weeks (Amoryn) and it did not do too much..I would really like to know if SJW is working for some and if so brands etc.. :)

Could you please take a look at some of the older posts here on the message board, which goes back about four years now. Your message is discouraging in light of the many millions of visitors here and the many thousands of messages and emails I've received indicating very positive response to St. John's Wort. Seeing as you've not had that great an experience yourself, you may have a tendency to seek out similar experiences to confirm what you already believe.
One of the reasons I put up the "read this first" message here in the Experiences section is exactly for the reason you described... to few people posting about their experiences and/or asking questions.

I have been using this for several years. It works very good for me.
Hey Kelly, where are some of the old posters. Do you remember EPXY (I think that was his name)? He was very knowledgeable about drugs and SJW. Whatever happened to the old posters?

SJW worked for me! I used Kira, and from the first day, I could tell it was working. Amoryn is a mix of different herbs, isn't it? Maybe that brand just isn't going to work for you. One brand can do wonders for one person, and nothing for another. You must keep experimenting until you find what works for your body. Good luck!

SjW works for me. Store bought brands had given me some success in the past but lately I decided I want to get better for real. So I sobered up and put more effort into exercising and eating better, though I could still use improvement there. anyway, I bought HBC Protocols off the Internet, have been on it over a month and have noticed a lot of improvement. I tend to be happier on a day to day basis. I'm still a little unstable and prone to stress but I've become more patient and can calm myself down more easily. Bought another HBC product called Thea-zen for when I can't calm down on my own. So I'm a lot more productive and accepting of things now than I have been before, and I've gotten there with basically no side effects.

It does -
it's just that depression is not one of those 'one-size-fits-all' things.
I have had very good success with sjw, and I am pretty convinced it saved me from going down the regular anti-depressant path. It's not a miracle worker, and I found I did have to take other things like B vits, maybe some ginkgo, as well as sorting out other deficiencies I had. I did also have to take breaks from it and substitute with something else during those times (after around 3 months I need to take a one month break). Note I suffered from bulimia for a long time, so just taking sjw didn't sort me out. I did however find that combining it with things helped A LOT.
There is no way I could know where I'd be now if I hadn't tried the wort. Note I am back taking it after a break now, as after the break although I thought I'd been 'cured' of my depression, it started to come back.
I now am embarking on my 'old' routine again, of sjw, fish oil, B vitamins, zinc, ginseng, vit C, kava, relora, 5htp and ginkgo biloba.
I have tried many, many supplements, including nootropic drugs, and I have to say, the wort has probably been the most steady/useful thing I have taken.
If the regular dose gives out on me after a few months this time, I am going to up the dosage for awhile, and then take another break.
My experiences with sjw have been that the antidepressant effect is very noticeable until you 'don't notice it' anymore - but I do actually think it still works after that, maybe not enough, but I do think dosage can be upped more than 900mg of extract a day. I'm not a doctor so don't take this as advice, but I have talked to quite a few people who have actually found continued success by taking a higher dose. Also taking fish oil can help support the wort's action.
Anyway in my opinion it is definitely worth taking, especially if you don't want all the side effects of meds.

Yes, I agree liked meds they all do not work as we all are different and have different minds and chemistry etc..I was just trying to get a ballpark on what works and does not. Maybe I was expecting too much or I was too depressed (severe) that was over what SJW could do for me..I was suicidal and was in desperate fast need. I went to teh hospital as I was ready to end it all. They said SJW was not going to hold me over. The doctor first gave me Effexor..This made my head feel like it was being messaged by a microwave. I felt so weird..I then went on Paxil as I have used it before and got off it ok as well..I do not want to be on thsi for long and looking for a natural route for the future..I'm ok now and stable..I just would love to be on something that is natural and as good as how I feel now on Paxil. I feel pretty much the same, except very little depression and very little anxiety. Things that would have made me breakdown and cry before just pass by me.Not sure if it is good, but in my bad times I have been in lately, I think it has saved my life. Please keep me informed so I can use this to get off the meds and onto a natural path..side effect free..Thanks all!

Hey Claude66, Just a heads up: much of the research that I've seen recently on SJW suggests that it works better for mild to moderate depression than it does for severe depression. I'm not a doc, but it sounds like you and I are in a similar place these days, so I thought I'd put my two cents in. I'm trying it too, before I resign myself to taking the "heavy" stuff with side effects. Good luck.

I have been taking SJW for a year and a half. It really helps me a lot. I can still get a little blue at time, but not severe depression. I have suffered with depression for 25 years. Tried all kinds of meds. SJW is the best for me. Gotta take it long enough to see the benefit. Good Luck.

| | | "MAGNESIUM" , Thu 27 Oct 14:07
Hi guys -
just got this thread update. I'm actually finding more relief these days with fish oil and magnesium (glycinate/citrate)(+ multi). This month was first month on magnesium and no pms or cramps and feeling much more positive/relaxed generally. Am not on the wort at present - sometimes I take a low dose of 5htp but not every day as I don't feel I need it.
Anyway the mag has basically anihalated my sleep problems (I take ~400mg at night). I didn't realize before but if you take a cal-mag supplement it is practically useless as a)most people need MUCH more mag than calcium and 2)magnesium oxide which is the cheapest form of mag is only absorbed about 4%. So that's a double whammy - excess calcium causes magnesium depletion, plus if you're not absorbing the mag you THINK you're taking in this makes things worse.
Sorry to waffle on - hopefully this info will be of use. There is a great long article at coldcure.com about magnesium and depression.
