Hello all!
I have been reading this forum for a long time now… and all the info has been great!
My story: I was put on 10mg of Paxil for six months to combat anxiety and mild depression. It’s a small dose; however, it did somewhat help me… I just couldn’t take the side effects anymore and stopped taking it about 3 months ago. The depression is almost gone, but the anxiety was still haunting me… so I decided to give st. Johns wort a try. I take a brand called Solgar, 300mg, 0.3% hypericin taken 3 times a day. I must say that it helped me a little, especially after the second week… the only thing I feel “mentally” is a little “foggy headed”, tiredness with slight anxiety. So that a long way from feeling very anxious, tiered, restless, dry mouth, high blood pressure etc. the other thing which has caused me some concern is constipation!! I tried green tea, but it didn’t really help…
I am so happy with SJW, that I don’t want to stop it just because of constipation! So ANY advice would be greatly appreciated...
Also. I heard taking the full 3 doses before bed time will help with tiredness and foggy headedness… has anyone tried this?

ey govna,
i just wanna ask you if you've been experiencing constipation prior to taking sjw? or just when u started taking sjw when the constipation started? i hope you can reply to this. thanks so much! =)

no, never had constipation before SJW... but now 4 weeks into it, the constipation is gone :)

Hi guvna, I posted a message and thought it had gone through and up now I am feeling more crazy as I was convinced mine had gone up on the board. So here goes again. 1 Drink loads of water as water helps soften waste material in the gut.
2.I know its a cliche but do eat lots of fibre /fruit /veg /apricots
3.Introduce a probiotic like yakult maybe(good bacteria its a mini dreik)
4.I used to find that if I was idle in the day which was quite a lot , it would make me constipated. So excercise where and want to.
5.Also I found fish oil works for me as it did soften my stools(as I would get constipated)so I take that daily
6, tinned prunes, they really are not so bad lots of people think yuck but when you are constipated
and un comfortable you are willing to try anything
My stomache used to balloon up when I was constipated even now I do pass hard stools (which means they are absorbing and staying in the gut too long)
Yakult do a good free booklet about the gut ,bowels and constipation. Also in their there is a bit called the Bristol scale its about 7 different poo styles there is and what they mean ie slow transition time, fast etc. About how small hard ones made up of lots of lumps absorb all your water. How they should be.
hope I have not been to graphic about details, I know stools are not always what people have a subject on.

Hi Govna,
Thanks for the note about my site, it's always nice to hear from people who've been silently reading here for a while and have finally decided to post a message. :) Not sure what to suggestion about constipation, if anything I experience the opposite. Have you tried drinking for coffee? It's a diuretic. Anything with caffeine in it can often help.

You may want to try taking a fiber supplement for the constipation,that would be my suggestion.

My problem is officially solved :) I increased my fiber /fruit /vegitable /apricots intake and also… my mom (god bless her) gave me this supplement called Colon Clenz! It’s made up of 100% naturals stuff… Seeds, roots, leaves, u names it! One in the morning after breakfast and it clears me up about 4 hours later!
Im also wondering… im depression has completely disappeared! So I don’t see the need for adding 5-HTP, UNLESS it helps with anxiety? I don’t feel anxious at home in anyway, but when I’m in a crowded place, I begin to feel it. I know that it’s because of my previous panic attacks; I would become anxious fearing that the panic is going to strike and that im going to pass out!!!
So will the 5-HTP by increasing serotonin, which STJ will “help” release, ease those anxiety symptoms? Or does serotonin only work with being “happy”? Because im happy :), just a little anxious.

Hi, I just wanted to say that Magneseum works wonders for constipation. I take between 300mg and 500mg each day and no problems. Most people are low in Mag so it's something we need for our heart health anyway.
