To those who are taking niacinamide - how is it going? Is it working?
About 3 months ago, I started taking niacinamide and found it worked wonders. But around 4 weeks ago, it stopped working. In place of the calmness it once instilled, I now feel agitated and am constantly in a foul mood. So, needless to say, I stopped taking it... But, I still wonder why it stopped working. Does one need to cycle on/off of it? I was taking 1500 mg a day (spaced out in 3 dosages) - do I need to take more or less of it? What is your experience with niacinamide?
Thanks in advance for your input...

Hi -
what else do you take? Do you take a B-complex vitamin as well? I've heard that it's better to take any one B in a high dose along with a B-complex.
I'm still doing well with niacinamide, but I vary the dosages, and I'm also taking a lot of other things (5-htp, B-complex, magnesium, gaba, inositol, fish oil, multi-vitamin, ginko/gotu). I would say the B-complex is REALLY important - I break up the 50mg tablets and take 25mg doses 4x daily. I usually take niacinamide 500mg for stressful situations, then sometimes 250mg for later in the day when I'm not too stressed. I've also found combining this with 500mg inositol and 250 - 500mg GABA excellent for anxiety. The ginkgo is my latest thing and is really getting me over the 5-htp tiredness. I only combine the ginkgo with gotu when I really need a big mental boost.
What has surprised me is that ginkgo has a mood effect on me - I am slightly more 'up' when I take this, but not in a nervous way. I have tried many things for mental concentration, but this is by far the best. I think it must have an effect on neurotransmitters.
Just make sure you get good amounts of the other B vitamins - and maybe if you cut back on the niacinamide to a slightly smaller dose you might have more luck. I have read somewhere that constant large doses of niacinamide MAY worsen depression - but I think only in the way that it can act like a mild benzo on your brain and thus pull you too much the other way.
Let me know how you're doing as I am also taking this stuff.
