"Success Story !" , Thu 22 Apr 19:02

Hi all,

Just wanted to say that after 13 days on SJW the effects started to kick in really well. It's now day 17 and I've been feeling consistenly 'normal' for this time which is a huge change as I've been down for weeks (since discontuining my SSRI antidepressant). I am not from the US/Canada so my dosage and brand are different. I use Natures Own 2 x 1800 mg tabs./day. I was freaked about this dosage at first after reading the recommended dosage you guys use but after quizzing chemists, my doctor and other health care people they say it's because the consistency and part of the plant used here is different. For the first 4 days I felt really tired but after that I still felt crap but not tired. Anyway that's my story. Just wanted to encourage some people out there and don't give up even if it takes you longer. As I said I was on an SSRI antidepressant before SJW and doubted that they would be as good but so far I'd have to say the effects are comparable. I'm SO relieved it has worked.
Here's to good mental health ! jj

i'll drink a cup of sjw tea to that!
i've made a few posts already since i joined the forum, praising the positive effects of sjw tea on anxiety. i forgot to mention in any of those a funny sjw memory.
in 1998, when i was still dating the woman who has become my wife, i was anxious about our future together. (i needn't have worried). i saw a jar at her place labelled "saint john's wort", full of a grassy substance. i'd heard of sjw's properties. well, with her permission, i drank her whole stash of "SJW tea" (over a few weeks, of course). it worked! i felt so much better, balanced, relaxed. shortly after, she remembered that the jar had been LABELLED for some sjw that she'd never bought, and, for the duration, she was storing licorice root in the jar!
licorice root is known as a very effective relaxant, focussing mostly on the digestive system, which of course connects closely with general mental well-being. (i do still take L.R. now, but knowingly).
as to sjw, i drink it every day and swear by it. spread the word to the ends of the earth: go herbal!

God bless!

A word of caution as well: licorice reduces testosterone and can thereby also cause a lot of problems for men.

Hi Ctomarctus,

Sorry for the bad news, but yes. Licorice is supposed to be great for the adrenal glands. Which expains why many people find it calming and soothing. But do a search in google for +licorice +testosterone and you'll see references to the unwanted lowering of testosterone. Also, unless licorice has been specially treated, high consumption can lead to increased blood pressure as well. Oh well, there's always chamomile, right?

"Everyone, Beware Licorice" , Tue 1 Jun 14:21

Just thought I'd add my bit... I tried licorice and although it was good at first (kind of soothing), after a week or two I felt very bad - weakened, dull, and back to square one with my depression-anxiety-tension state. And I'm female! Whether it was raised cortisol or lowered testosterone, or both, I'm not sure. But I would advise anyone to stay clear of it unless they've definately tested positive for "adrenal insufficiency".

ctomarctus, you could try valerian, passionflower (passiflora) or gotu kola as calming herbs if you ever need something stronger than chamomile!

Good luck,
cici

dear cici,
valerian i do take on an "as-needed" basis. i liked goldenrod, picked straight from these fields of home, and chamomile, to put into the tea-ball for infusion with sjw. (chamomile takes the edge off the STRONG flavor of sjw tea). gotu i've never tried.
my brother tells me that even what little testosterone women do have in their systems, is very necessary for well-being. i suppose, given that, that licorice would affect you adversely, too. (apparently, men contain a touch of estrogen, as well.) thank you for your advice!

God bless!
