"First Day" , Tue 13 Apr 07:24

I have just today stated taking SJW I have purchased the 1 a day Kira brand, I am a little confused about how many to take as this forum mostly advises 900MG per day mine are only 300MG. Does anyone have any advise? Also what is the best time to take them?

I have a Mild depression but high anxiety and OCD (only thoughts) no compulsions. This started last year I was first given Effexor which put me in a living nightmare for 3 days, then Prozac I took this for about 7 months it helped but I was never completed comfortable with them I had to take propranolol (beta blocker) all the time I was on them.

Anyway I stopped taking them last December things have gradually gone down hill I tried Zispin and Cipralex recently both of which I could not tolerate. I now have wicked withdrawel symptoms. I hope the SJW helps as the moment I am struggling quite badly at work and at home.

HI,
I have taking sjw for about three months. I wanted to try
a lower amount than 900mg. I took 300mg twice a day for
the first month. I started taking it for anxiety and
panic attacts. It started working after about two weeks
I felt calmer and was sleeping better. I now take 600mg
with breakfast and 300mg at bedtime. I have experenced
a significant improvement in the quality of my life since
taking it. You have to be patient it may take some time
before you feel the benifits. Best of luck.

Yesterday was also my first day too! Like you, I am confused about the dosage after reading through this site. I have purchased Boots own brand (in the UK) which I think is made by Kira (the info leaflet that came in the box was published by them). Again, it is one pill a day (300mg). I have struggled with depression for many years. I also suffer from a form of social phobia - both seem to be rearing their ugly heads with me at the moment. I went to visit my GP who was going to prescribe anti-depressants. I asked her about SJW and she told me to give it a go. So here I am. Day 2 and surfing the web desperate to find info to prove I am not going to end up in a straight jacket in a padded cell! I have another appointment with my GP next week. I think I'll ask her about the 900mg dose. Good luck.

The standard dose is 900mg/day (300mg 3xday). St. John's seems to affect people differently so do some experimenting. Some experience fatigue and take the entire dose at bedtime, others take 300mg in the morning and 600mg at night. I've found that 300mg 3 times a day at mealtimes works well for me. Give it time to work....it took seven weeks at 900mg/day for me to experience the benefits of St. John's.

Regarding social phobia, visit the Social Anxiety Institute at http://www.socialanxietyinstitute.org / There's a lot of great information there and the institute's taped series is excellent. You can try to squelch the symptoms of social phobia/anxiety though medications, herbs, etc. but unless you address the root fears through cognitive behavioral techniques and exposure exercises, the social anxiety will continue to lurk in the background of your mind. Best wishes.

Thank you for that. I will check out the pages. I have ordered a book from Amazon which will take me through some cognitive behavioural stuff, so am hoping that will help. I have suffered from this for some time, but am only now admitting I need some help. Thanks for the advice about the dosage. I will experiment! Thanks again :-)
