yea its great stuff aye! Good to hear that its workin so well for u, I've just went threw a whole bottle of the stuff, over a period of a month, and am finding its still working well! I think I might try the liquid gotu kola now as opposed to the capsules, cause apparently it is sposed to be more effective.

You said it, wow!
It really works wonders with mood stabilisation. I am a different person. Alot happier, more sociable, better memory it's an amazing herb for me.

I can't recommend it highly enough. I'm taking 1500mg a day and it seems to be working a treat. I'm also taking the recommended dosage of sjw at night and together they must be working a treat on my neurotransmitters...

No need for any other drugs or supplements, I feel perfect :)

Wow is right!

I have only been taking it for a week and a half and it has been unbelievable. I am at a very intense part of my schooling right now and I have developed an increadible focus on Gotu Kola. Something I have struggled with all my life, along with anxiety.
And that brings me to anxiety. The increased focus and clarity has significantly reduced my anxiety. I really hope the affects don't diminish over time.
I can't believe that more people don't take this stuff. I have tried Ginko, Rhodiola, and Ashwaganda. They did nothing for me.
Anyways, I am still trying to determine the most effective times to take my dose. Right now I am taking 1000mg of Gotu leaf powder at night and 600mg of SJW in the morning.
I will keep you guys updated.

Take care,
Chris

"Re(4):WOW" , Fri 2 Apr 03:39:

Hi there,

I find it wonderful to read all these positive responses come in. I've been taking it for about six weeks now and it's still good.

I have noticed changes though - it no longer helps me get to sleep when I take it at night. In fact the opposite, it's like my mind feels too active to sleep. As it's been about six weeks maybe something else has "kicked in"? Slightly worried about what this change means but I will keep you all posted.

So I've started taking it in the morning instead of the evening. I'm wondering if should try and phase out the SJW, and see what happens, especially now as the effect of taking both herbs in the morning is a bit too intense... and there are the annoying side-effects I would like to be free of (would be nice to wear my contact lenses again without my eyes feeling dry and sore... and those hormonal problems...). Not sure if I could cope without SJW though, have tried before but my ability to "read" social situations just goes. Maybe this time...

Yes I think it's amazing that gotu kola has not been noticed much in this context. I guess certain things take a while to catch on. SJW was virtually unheard-of a few years ago, but with so many people taking it and finding it effective, word gets around...eventually!

Cici

cici, can I enocourage you to stay on the sjw. I did the same thing a few months back, found something, thought it would be great to get rid of the sjw and just use what I had found. But as the effects of the sjw wore off, I began feeling the old problems creeping back again.

It took 3 weeks of taking sjw to start feeling the same as I did before. And now with Gotu, I can't believe the difference it's made to me. I am a different person. Literally!!

I would recomend taking sjw with your evening meal, and having gotu in the morning. It works a treat for me.

Good luck cici :)

ok over the past few days I've been experimenting with a liquid gotu kola, and i must say I think its been even more effective than the capsules. It seems to have been working quicker and has a better effect on me too. I'll take this for another week and then have a couple of weeks break like others have suggested.

Hi Chief,

You're probably right... I don't like to think I'm dependent on anything, but in this case I probably am. I took no SJW yesterday, then woke up Sunday feeling bad, and read your message... As you can read in my message below, I thought I would give the gotu kola a rest for a couple of weeks, and then restart. Seems to be advised...

So meanwhile I will definately need the SJW! When I restart the gotu kola I'll try again taking the SJW it at night. I am a bit worried about how I'll sleep, but I'll see how it goes...

Great to hear you're feeling so well!

Cici

Cici, you'll be fine. Take the sjw at night with your evening meal, around 6-7pm. I've been on the gotu for about 3-4 weeks, and I find it gives me a boost in the morning and really motivates me. I wonder if you're feeling this effect when you take it at night and it doesn't let you sleep.

Did the positive effect wear off? or are you taking a break because you feel you should? So far I have had no signs of the positive effects wearing off. I hope it doesn't. Life is so good the way I'm feeling. I feel invincible. (my spelling might not be though lol)

Take care, you're a gem :)

Thanks Chief... The positive effects weren't wearing off, but yes I stopped taking it because I thought I should - just being cautious, I don't want to fry my brain...! :) I don't feel too bad, more tense, a bit tired, cravings for chocolate and junk food (this is wearing off fortunately!)

I did try taking SJW the night before last. Yesterday I felt my energy to be a bit low around late afternoon (I have found this before). I took it last night as well, I slept well, I'll see how it goes today. To begin with gota kola was so nice taken at night, like being wrapped in a warm blanket, and some vivid dreams too (I saw this as a plus). Then the SJW would give me an energy boost in the morning (I tried it once the other way round and felt a bit groggy by mid-afternoon. This could be a point on which we differ!) It was like that for about 4-5 weeks, before insomnia came back. Maybe in the way you described, too much energy... May take more experimenting before I get it right.

As you said "here's to experimenting"!

Coincidentally, the following link (under "Precautions") instructs gotu kola users to take a 2 week break after 6 weeks usage:

http://www.healthandage.com/html/res/com/ConsHerbs/GotuKolach.html

Like anything on the Internet, I don't know how accurate this data is.

Gotu Kola has brightend my social life for about three months now. I've yet to notice any negative side effects, just be careful as there is always the risk that certain liver destroying Fungi can contaminate your Gotu Kola pills. So, if you notice any discoloration don't take the pill and bring it back to your healthfoods store and get a refund. I think the name of the Fungi is Aspergillus.

My drug regimen consists of.
600mg DMAE bitrate (~200mg pure DMAE)
B-Vitamin Complex (includes 100mg Choline)
1600mg Gotu Kola (1/2 in the Morning and 1/2 Afternoon)
900mg St.John's Wort (Makes me drowsy so I take it at night)
20mg Vinpocetine (When I need to get some work done)
1/2mg Melatonin (When I can't get to sleep)

I find Gotu Kola will loose it's effectiveness after about five weeks of use for me, if that happens just take two weeks off and when you come back you'll be as good as new.

When I first started taking Gotu, I was taking 900mg of SJW in the morning along with 500mg of Gotu at morning, lunch, and dinner (1,500mg total). I also had a few annoying side effects. Sort of a buzzy headache feeling, along with being tired in the morning. This is probably due to taking too much, and taking them at the same time. However, the benefits of the Gotu Kola were very apparent.
Anyways, I have reduced the SJW to 600mg in the morning and 1000mg of Gotu Kola at night. So far, this seems to work pretty good for me. I have never had a problem sleeping. I could drink a cup of coffee before bed and go to sleep!
Maybe try slowly reducing the amount of Gotu Kola and/or SJW you are taking and spread them out.
Keep us posted.

Take care,
Chris

ChrisS, you're right, the buzzing headache is an interaction between the SJW and the Gotu Kola. I find that by taking Gotu Kola during the day and SJW before bed the doses are spread out enough to avoid this.

Hi there everyone,

Nice to have a veteran in our midst!

I've decided to follow advice and take a two-week break from gotu kola. It's not so much that it's not working (still nice anti-anxiety effect), but I am feeling a bit "wired", with a strange interaction going on with SJW. It would be difficult to cut down, my daily regimen Friday was

250mg gotu kola first thing
1 cup St John's Wort herbal tea before lunch!

I must be quite sensitive to stuff, I did feel very strange on this. I'll resume gotu kola in a couple of weeks because it's great, and sort out some sort of routine with everything that allows me to sleep well...

Thanks for the warm welcome cici!

Gotu Kola increases my energy too. That's fine for me since I'm naturally a lower energy person. If you're having trouble getting to sleep try getting some subligual melatonin. With Subligual Melatonin you just let the tablet dissolve below your tongue, and you'll be asleep in 15 minutes or less. Melatonin is the harmon the human body normally uses to regulate sleep, so it will usually enhance your sleep and you'll never develop a dependency. Start with 1/2mg then go down/up from there. Kai.

Yeah, I'm starting to wonder if this isn't some kind of "wonder drug". I think I'm going to get some also. Does it work for insomnia?

I wouldn't recommend Gotu Kola for insomnia, it actually tends to increase energy. Perhaps the extra activity that you would do during the day with Gotu would cause you to become more tired at night, therefore helping insomnia. However, for insomnia I would recommend melatonin. Try .5 mg subligual melatonin, just let it dissolve beneath your tongue right before you go bed (most tablets have a nice peppermint taste). If that isn't enough, you can increase it from there. If you find yourself waking up at night, then try a time release melatonin tablet, I have no experience with time release tablets, so you'll have to find some information on your own. Kai.

Thanks kai. I take melatonin already for the past 2 years & I'm really trying to stop with it, someone told me it can cause depression. I also thought that gotu Kola was for sleeping, no? You say it increases energy? Hmmm??? I'm very confused to say the least.

dear silver,
i don't pretend to know anything about gotu kola, but i have found that , in many cases, beneficial substances are just that because of their "balancing" effects. to this end, a natural substance that "lifts" a depressed person might also simultaneously calm them...while an herb that "relaxes" a person, gives them energy as they've never known. sjw is like that. i tend towards anxiety, and it calms me. my friend is certainly on the depressed side, and it lifted her. such are the properties of many, many other natural treatments. if the remedy is taken properly, one positive effect needn't necessarily exclude another.
sincerely, ctomarctus

God bless!
