"SJW stopped working." , Fri 5 Mar 23:38

Here s the story of my life.

I suffer from mild chronic depression for the last 20 years. I’m 36 years old, single.
On November 2001 I started taking SJW plus Sam-E
I felt like I was alive again, never though I could feel so good, I kept taking this combo for about 6 months, and then I started to feel down, suddenly things weren’t looking that bright anymore. Dosage was increase, depression kept coming stronger and stronger, and out of desperation I stopped taking SJW and Sam-E.
My life went down like a roller coaster. Never felt so bad.
Since then I tried with not good result, 5 htp , L- tyrosine.

I want to try SJW + Same-E again but afraid of going trough same thing.

Please respond.

Also I forgot to add that I suffer from mild social anxiety.
During the time I was using SJW and added Sam-E I was able to look inside of me for the first time in many years. I could see that depression was problem big enough added to real problem which is “Unwanted male attraction”. That was when decided “enough is enough” BUT unfortunately SJW stopped working and could not longer work in my issues.
Right now I’m seriously considering coming back to SJW and Sam-E BUT the idea of going too down again really freak me out .

Any suggestion!!!

Hi Miamilatino-

What do you mean by "unwanted male attraction"?

I have the same type of story.(except I have battled depression, panic and anxiety for 40 years.)
I had tried many many antidepressants to no avail, so the past two years I decided to try "all natural" approach and found this website which is a real blessing....It helps me feel not so alone.....and I stay on the website to continue learning.....

I tried SJW for 2-3 months and felt some relief, and was thrilled...however, I am a woman who has had breast cancer, and the SJW made my menstrual cycle extremely painful and erratic, which lead me and my doctor to be concerned about any potential undiscovered "estrogenic" effects (which is a no no for breat cancer.)So I simply could not take the risk.... I had no alternative but to go off of SJW.

I am now trying a very very low dose of Lexapro (which is newer to market and I had never tried before), with a tiny amount of xanax to help the increased anxiety. (Altho the Psych tells me that in a few weeks I can wean off the xanax as the anxiety diminishes after the Lexapro starts to work and it take a good 6 weeks.)

HOWEVER: PLease let me tell you that one week on the Lexapro I am better than all the months on vitamins, SJW,fish oil, herbs etc. I was shocked that when you find the right antidepressant for you that it actually works!!!!! I had envied people who can take antidepressants with no-minimal side effects and for whom it actually works. I hope/may have found one that will at least make my life worth living. I am also using prayer, and cognitive therapy techniques to learn how to deal with life mentally in a different way, and not relying soley on the mdeication to make it all better.....But I can tell you the medication is a life saver!!!!

Please understand that I am NOT a doctor and every one has their own needs and ways. But if you are this bad, I urge you to get to a medical professional. You may wish to try the Lexapro in low dose at least as it has the least potential side effects, and you need some help until you can get a bit better.
Best of luck,......
