"Perika SJW + Valerian = Good; SSRI = Bad" , Fri 6 Feb 14:41:

In summer 2003 I slipped into a bad state of stress, anxiety and depresseion. Most nights I could only sleep about 3 hours, and days were getting harder and more stressful without sleep. I tried some OTC sleep aids, which often gave me an extra 2 hours sleep, but no anxiety or depression relief.

In autumn I finally sought help from a psychology therapist and my general physician. Both recommended an SSRI. I tried Lexapro for 2 days and stopped. Side effects were so strong, frankly I am surprised I took it a 2nd day. Nausea, sleeplessness, jitters, hot & cold flashes all took turns. Doc switched me to fluoxetine (generic Prozac), which I took 1 day and stopped. Side effects were less, but I still did not like the drug. These are POWERFUL mind-altering drugs, and reminded me of some stuff I experimented with in the 70s, which I don't want today.

St John's Wort was my next step, which the Doc didn't like, but I didn't like his drugs. The psychology therapist accepted that SSRIs were not for me, and encouraged me to try an alternative like SJW. I tried SJW from CVS and GNC, with some positive results. From this forum, I heard about the wonders of Perika, and gave that a try. PRAISE PERIKA!

After just a few days on Perika, I felt noticeably better. After 2-3 weeks my mood had so improved, that friends and coworkers remarked about it. And I was sleeping better. I added Valerian Root to my before bed regimen, and sleep improved even more.

This formula is working for me:
Before bed: 2 Perika and 2 Valerian
Morning: 1 Perika, and a good multi-vitamin
Afternoon: B-100 complex

I was also taking a calcium & magnesium supplement at bed time, but since dropped that.

I should add that a few sessions with the psychology therapist did help put things into perspective - SJW didn't do it alone, but seems to be a big help. PRAISE PERIKA!
