Topic Title: feeling down

I have been on Perika since Memorial Day. I take 600 mgs 3 times per day - so I have been on 1800mg per day. This weekend I have been very down and the Perika does not seem to be working. I am wondering if I have a bad bottle. I took 900mg at breakfast and just took another 900mg at lunch but still feel down. Anyone else experience this?

For what it's worth I kinda recall something I read in The Mood Cure. It's been a while since I read it so this won't be exact. She said that she had many patients who over time found their optimal dosage of aminos only to get to the point where they felt bad again. She recommended dropping down on the dosage to see how they felt. Her reasoning was something like the brain had figured out how to resupply (just not the right wording) and that just as you would feel bad to not have enough of whatever, you would also feel bad to have too much. Might be something to try?

Hi Perika, I know what you mean but I will add my 2 cents, I am into my 5th week on SJW and am waiting for better results to kick in.. I believe that the product is only part of the solution and we must push ourselves to get into action and to not dwell on problems and depression, I know for myself that I can think myself into a hole if I let myself, In the past I did feel much better by joining a gym and working out along with any medication, in this case the sjw.. do anything that is positive for mind and soul... I live in the northeast and its so cold, everyone is hiding indooors so you are not alone, I wish you the best and 'hang in there' above every cloud is the bright sunshine..we will get there!! I, too, take Perika (300 mg x 3 times day). One thing to keep in mind is that St. John's is not a shield against all upsetting or depressed feelings. While I feel great overall, there are certainly times when I feel a bit down or anxious depending on the situation or circumstances. Virtually everyone has these times. But the St. John's has worked to dramatically improve my my mood overall and when trying times occur, they never last long. Clearly, something has been triggered in you. An event? Alcohol? Sugar? Allergies? A comment made to you by someone? In the end, the cause doesn't even really matter. The important thing is not to dwell on your depressed attitude. Get up and get out of the house. See a movie or visit a friend. Sometimes we all focus too much on our feeling inside, while life is passing by outside. If you've been on it since Memorial Day, clearly St. John's was working for you and I hope you're feeling better again soon.

Thank you everyone for your supportive comments on my Jan 11 posting. I only had a couple of days of "down-ness," and resumed back to my normal self. I think that the particular bottle of perika I had been using was for some reason not as potent. When I opened a new bottle I noticed a dramatic difference. I am wondering if perhaps the hyperforin that is in the perika had become unstable and lost its potency. Anyway, I have overall felt that Perika is highly effective and recommend it to anyone suffering from anxiety and/or depression. Also I find that excercising in conjunction with eating healthy, getting enough sleep and using Perika is a good balance. For excercise I do the treadmill between a half hour and 50 minutes 4 times per week.

Hi. Just to let everyone know quite taking Perika this summer for 6 days. I felt fine the first 3 days without it but then started to feel more and more down and anxiety set in. By the 6th day I had to get back to the Perika. However I changed my dosage. I had been taking 1800mg per day, and I reduced it to the recommended 900mg. I have kept that dosage for 2 months and feel that this dosage is best.
