Dear Betty,
I can only speak from experience, but I have been taking SJW for just over a year with little or no side-effects.
Generally, the messages on this board bear out the fact that side effects are not a great issue with SJW, unlike prescription medication. The only thing I have found is that with certain brands if you take too much SJW without food it can be slightly irritating on the stomach.
The most important thing when starting SJW is to find a good brand and to take the right dosage.
A quick flick through the 'Brands' section of this board may help, together with Kelly's 'recommended dosage' link at the top left of this page.

From what I have read here, few people experience side effects, but the side effects reported include upset stomach, sensitivity to the sun, and increased thirst. There are others, I think. I suggest you click on the search icon and type in "side effects". You'll probably get a much more complete picture. I have been taking sjw for more than a year, and have experienced no side effects. Well, maybe a little more sensitivity to the sun, but I'm not sure about that. Hope this helps. Good luck.
