"Advice needed!!!????" , Fri 2 Jan 10:01

Hello all
My first time on this site, so please be gentle :-)

Here goes.....
My partner was involved in an accident about 3 months ago. He was crossing the road, on a zebra crossing, when he was hit by a motorbike. He had head injuries and bruising. He was very fortunate, as the injuries could have been much worse. He was unconcious for about 5 minutes or so, spent the night in the hospital, getting stitched back together, etc.

A month after the accident his physical injuries were healing very well, then he started to have panic attacks, feeling dizzy all the time, no energy, couldnt cope being around lots of people or in noisy places, unable to have a full night sleep, lost his confidence and was just unsure about everything and his memory became bad. Never in his life had he experienced anything like this.
We went to see the our doctor, who unfortunately didnt take it very seriously and told him he would be OK in a week or so. Which was a great help as you can imagine. Well the week came and went and he was still suffering with the attacks. So... we went to see another doctor, who was the complete opposite, he listened to what my partners symptoms were, and immediately told him that he need to be taking anti-depressants.
Now, just to explain a little about me, I will only take medicines from the doctor if it is a question of life and death. I always choose the herbal remedies first.
So, we decided to try St johns wort first to see if it helped him in anyway. He has now been taking it for about a month and half, the panic attacks seem to be coming less regular, he still gets the dizzy feeling sometimes and he is getting better at coping with being in noisy and busy places.
I know we still have a long way to go, before he is back to how he used to be (hopefully he will).
He has also been drinking cammomile tea, before bed to help him relax, which also seems to be helping.

I am unsure of what advice i would like from this forum, but anything would be grateful. Has anyone else here been in the same situation? Have you tried any other remedies that have worked for you?

If anyone can help me understand what my partner is going through, from experience, to help me understand how hes feeling.
He does try to explain to me, but because we have never been through something like this before it is very difficult.

I´m not sure if by now, you have fallen asleep, hopefully not.
Any help advice would be most welcome.

thank you

I read a book by Daniel Amen titled Change Your Brain, Change Your Life. In it he talks a lot about people who were in accidents, and how it affected their brains. He even shows brain scans, showing how the brains have changed. He suggests the use of different medications, depending on which part of the brain is damaged. Personally, I thought he was a bit heavy on the use of medications, because I abhor the thought of taking them, but he did seem to have great results. I too would go the herbal route to recover from brain trauma, unless it was completely necessary to use the prescription meds to recover. I believe you can find him on the web, do a name search.

It sounds like Post Traumatic Stress Disorder to me. Are you familiar with this? If not, you can do a search for it on the web & will easily find some info on it. Good luck!
