"2 SJW and 2 L-Tyrosine work well for me" , Sat 25 Oct 12:06

Hi everyone: I took the usual 3 SJW (GNC Standardized) each day with B-Complex, other vitamins & Ginko Biloba, for a year and felt this worked well for me but about a month ago I started to become moderately depressed anyway. I took a scientific approach. I wanted to to stop the SJW and begin taking 2 or 3 500 mg. capsules of L-Tyrosine and I went about it this way: First I cut the SJW down to 2 a day and also took 2 capsules of L-Tyrosine for a few days, then just ONE SJW, with 2 Tyrosine, thinking I'd wean myself off SJW and gradually replace it with Tyrosine only...I found that after 3 days of taking just 1 SJW, with 2 Tyrosine, I began feeling unmistakably depressed. I then quickly started taking TWO SJW as well as 2 capsules of L-Tyrosine (Twin Lab brand) and within a day or two felt MUCH better. Now I take two each of SJW and Tyrosine and feel a LOT better than I did for the entire year I took the traditional 3 SJW a day. Months ago, I tried 4 SJW daily, but this caused me to be unable to recall dreams. FOR ANYONE OUT THERE WHO FEELS THEY NEED SOMETHING MORE, forget SAM-e (it's very expensive and caused me to seek Emergency Rm. treatment from severe stomach pain)...You too might be pleasantly surprised at the two plus two combination of SJW and L-Tyrosine (along with vitamins) Anyone tried this yet?
Jeanne

"Re(1):2 SJW and 2 L-Tyrosine work well for" , Sun 2 Nov 14:24

Hi,
I've been taking sjw and L tyrosine for about 5 days now. A book I read by Neurologist Daniel Amen called "Healing the Hardware of the Soul" suggested taking up to 3000 mg of L-tyrosine per day. I take 1000 to 2000 since I'm worried this may aggravate my insomnia. But mental foggyness and confusion is the reason I'm seeking out treatment after being off zoloft for 7 months, so I figure this dose may help. Dr Amen says it can counteract some of the "dinginess" that might occur with SJW. I think I may try to take the SJW at night and the tyrosine in the morning and early afternoon hoping the SJW will help me sleep and the tyrosine may help ward off the 2-5pm confusion I usually suffer.

"What time of day do you take these?" , Thu 30 Oct 16:52

Hello Jeanne!

What time(s) of day do you take the tyrosine and the SJW, and if you usually divide the dose, how much are you taking each time? Have you found that a particular dosage schedule works better for you than another? Thanks for any further details.

"I take my natural "meds" early each morning" , Sun 2 Nov 10:31

Hello H20Buffalo:

I just now found your note. I take 2 SJW and 2 capsules of L-Tyrosine in the morning, (before a light breakfast) along with lots of vitamins. A few times I've taken an extra 250 mg. of Tyrosine (cutting a capsule in half - a bit powdery) along with an extra B-Complex, but when I do this it may be too stimulating as I sometimes have a hard time falling asleep that night. If you're not getting enough relief from the usual three SJW a day, I suggest that you try taking L-Tyrosine along with 2 SJW. There's LOTS of information on Google.com on Tyrosine, and not only from places selling the stuff either.

"Amino Acids as Therapy" , Thu 4 Dec 20:54

Regarding the taking of Amino Acids (Tyrosine, 5-HTP, Phenylalanine Tryptophan ) as a therapy against depression it needs to be made clear that in order for them to be most effective they must be taken without any protein or on an empty stomach!! Some time needs to then pass ( 45 minutes or so ) before consuming protein in order to allow the individual amino acids to be digested and pass from the bloodstream through the blood brain barrier into where they can act as the precursors to their various neurotransmitters. As for Tyrosine, it is effective taken early in the day on a regular basis, but I found L-Phenylalanine to be so much better. Phenylalanine is eventually broken down into Tyrosine as well but the small amount that goes towards making other chemicals ( including the feel good chemical found in chocolate ) makes all the difference! Try it, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
