I took 900 mg for thirty days, and I went through the worse depression of my life. It amazes me how something that has worked for millions of other people did not work for me. Anybody else had this experience?

I didn't last 3 weeks!!! I started Oct 2nd and things just got worse for me. You aren't alone and nothing works the same for everyone, so thank goodness we have alternatives. Mine is 5-HTP and soon as I stopped the SJW and switched it was like night and day and now people don't hide when they see me. Seriously, I was so depressed and angry. My posts are here, as to my experience with SJW. So anyways, I will be posting at the 5-HTP boards if you decide to give that a try.

Did you stop taking any prescribed meds when you started SJW? If you were on meds for depression and just stopped, and started taking SJW, you could easily drop into increased/worsened depression.

I am in the medical field and am familiar with all of the antidepressants. I am also familiar with St.John's Wort and believe it does work in some cases of depression. You may need to see your doctor or a psychiatrist to determine if you are dealing with simple depression or another disorder (i.e. bipolar disorder) which has some similar symptoms as depression, but the treatment is different. Please seek professional help, because either disorder is treatable. Hang in there!

Me too I feel that way. I've been taking it for 2 weeks and I am getting worse, worse than I was before. I get more anxious than before. In 2 weeks I degenerated more than in 9 months.

I was on Perika SJW for 2 separate trials of 3 weeks. I felt MORE depressed and I felt very fatigued. If I started feeling better, I would have maybe toughed it out through my side effects (I always got bad acne from the SJW when I took it, and I started losing more hair than usual, along with feeling achy and sluggish, and more depressed). I always feel like I didn't give it enough time, but it seems that maybe others, like you, don't find relief from this supplement, either. I just always feel so much better after stopping it after each trial.

I'm curious what brand you were taking as well as when did you notice it getiing worst. Was it the first week, second, third? I'm on my 8th day and have notice nothing but good things. Negative thoughts seem to go away as fast as they got there.

I was taking the Kira brand. At first I didn't realize it was making me worse, until one day I thought back to how I felt before taking the sjw and that's when I realized it made things worse. At the time I was taking tyrosine with the st. johns wort and I started feeling a little better and then I ran out of the sjw and was just taking the tyrosine alone and I felt a whole lot better. I've been on tyrosine ever since with good results.

You know, sometimes I get horribly depressed now that I'm taking SJW, but it usually passes within 4 hours or so. One day I was in such a funk that I mixed 1/2 tsp of Cayanne red pepper with 1/2 cup of water and downed it. I was feeling much better whithin minutes. It was kind of like a good slap in the face to snap me out of it. I know this sounds kind of strange, but it worked for me and I would definately do it again if I again found myself in such a funk.

if sjw has made you feel worse for 3 wks with no relief at all then I would say its time to move on to something else. Just becouse it works great for some doesnt mean that it will work for everyone. I'm sorry you didnt find relief. It cant be easy going 3 wks and hoping for good results. It must feel like forever.

That's right, just because it works for some people, doesn' mean that it will work for everyone. But how does one tell the difference between a healing crisis and a poisoning?
