Topic Title: Placebo Effect?

Does anyone feel that perhaps SJW works under the placebo effect? I have taken it a little over a week now. In the beginning I did feel better, but as the days go on, I'm not sure I feel anything anymore. I'm afraid that my enthusiasm might have gotten the best of me and worked only because I wanted it to (which is probably not a bad thing). I just wonder if anyone else feels that way. Or perhaps my mood rose in the beginning and has now become stable and because of that I feel no change. Either way, I have continued taking it. Also, is there such a things as taking too much SJW. I have read in this discussion forum of pretty high dosages.

Yes, its normal to feel its working one day and not the next for the first few weeks. You need to give it atleat a month. Its sounds like forever to have to wait. If it works its worth it.

I think the fact that you are doing something to help yourself is enough to lift your mood, so there is something of a placebo effect there, especially for the first couple of days. But once the real effects kick in then you really know about it, at least I did. SJW is a mind-altering drug, not a placebo, I have no doubt about that.
A few years ago I used to take Ginseng and although at the time I was half convinced it gave me more energy, I later decided that it was the placebo effect. The Placebo effect can of course be very effective, but once you realise that's all it is then the effect goes.
I was originally suspicious that SJW would be the same, just because it is a herb with a silly name and you don't need a prescription for it. Now I know better, and I'm actually surprised it isn't controlled. They seem to do that with most drugs that actually work.

I think all drugs/herbs have a placebo effect.
For me, St. Johns Wort has two 'real' effects. The first effect which was noticable with the very first use was a calming anti anxiety almost but not quite sedating effect. The second effect was a cumulative one, apparent after about 4 days of use. This effect was markedly anti depressant in nature.
