Hi, I'm just wondering if anybody experienced a hair loss due to SJW? I'm concerned because I know that prescription anti-dipressants have a side effect such as hair loss. I know that SJW is a natural supplement, but I'm still worried. I'm suffering from Alopecia for many years now and it's all stress related. I also have a social phobia. My doctor want to put me on Paxil, but I refuse because of the side effects that I might have. Especially hair loss. So, if anybody heard anything about hair loss from SJW please let me know.

I found this fascinating - I have never heard of traditional antidep being related to hair loss. Can you remember where you heard it or read it? I also have a bad time with Alopecia. . . I am 42 and have had it mildly (enough to show and make me self conscious!) for about 10-12 years. I had assumed it was other drugs. . . such as for thyroid disease, that were doing it to me. . . . I have consulted 3 gen practitioners and 2 dermatologists, and not one suggested the connection to antidepressants - my use of which they saw in my file. Hmmm. . ..
I have tried Rogaine, with little to no success. I gave up after about 3 yrs of that. (That CANT be good for you. )
I took Paxil most recently for about 5 yrs. . . . I just stopped it and went to SJW. I will be curious to see what happens.

Hi Sheepy, I know that certain antidepressants can cause hair loss as I been told this by the dermatologists, and believe me I have seen quite a few. Actually, hair loss is listed as a side effect on some antidepressants as a warning. But again many people taking antidepressants all their life with no side effect such as hair loss. So as I can tell antidepressants are not for everyone, that's why I'm curious about the natural ones.
If you would like to know more about anitdepressants and how it's related to the hair loss you can just type it in the search engine and it will give you a lot of information about it.

Gosh Karina, thanks again! I will definitely look it up!
I have btw no hereditary factor apparently, so it's been quite a mystery. I was suspecting either stress or diet. . . which I suppose could also figure in . . . but wow, the antidepressant connection could explain everything! Especially since I have almost no side effects on any antidepressant, none serious. . . .so after so many years, I don't even READ the accompanying pharmaceutical info anymore when I pick up the prescription.
