Topic Title: hypoglycemia vs. depression

I had been struggling with depression for almost five years now. My first bout of depression came when I was struggling with family issues that I could not escape. Ever since then, I have struggled with depression coming back. I see a counselor regularly and was told that there is a possability of me having a chemical imbalance, so I was put on Prozac. I am now going to the doctors to see if I have hypoglycemia because I have all the symptoms. I had asked before if there was a correlation between depression and hypoglycemia and I was told no. I was so very relieved to find this web-page and read that there are others out there who are suffering from the same things that I am. I honestly have never heard of St. John's Wart, but I am curious. I am still awaiting news form the doctor's to see if I have been diagnised with hypoglycemia.

I have not been diagnosed with hypoglycemia, but I do know that if I skip a meal or two, I am likely to get very shaky and then have a panic attack. As to there being no correlation between low blood sugar and mood/depression, thats just wrong. There are scores of articles on medline linking low blood sugar to affective disorders. Most of these articles are related to diabetes, where the blood sugar goes from way high to way low. But there are some articles that deal strictly with hypoglycemia. Of course, there are lots of doctors that still don't believe hypoglycemia is real, or that it is being overdiagnosed to try to explain other problems.
