| | "MOOD BRIGHT LIVING BEYOND DEPRESSION" , Sun 13 Jul 13:41:
First I want to say a great big thank you to Kelly for performing this social service! I was first diagnosed with severe depression in 1971. Over the years I think I've tried just about every antidepressant medication "out there." They all have various side effects, including the ones Kelly mentioned.
The last one that I tried, Celexa, seemed to work pretty good and didn't have many "nasties" associated with its use, but I still felt my mood could be brighter without all the "hum or noise" associated with SSRI drugs. For me, on the Celexa, this was a sense of being somewhat hyped up or anxious and a certain numbing of the emotions. So, what does all this have to do with St. John's Wart? Uh, sorry Kelly, WORT?
First I discovered an amazing way to treat anxiety and depression with a small machine. I spent hours reading about a strange form of something related to acupuncture. Then I tried a bogus machine called the Brain Tuner: my advice is "don't order one." Being a person in recovery, I wanted a way to relax naturally, to be able to enter a meditative state on a regular basis, that's how I found the amazing device. It's called the Alpha-stim and it has really worked well for me. I stopped the Celexa a few months ago and no depression has returned. You can read about it at www.alpha-stim.com But how does this relate to St John's Wort?
Being antidepressant free and "riding the lightning" (as a joking friend likes to call my use of microcurrent stimulation via the Alpha-stim), I still felt my mood could be brighter. I wasn't depressed anymore, but I still missed the zest and verve I have experienced in my life when I knew my neurotransmitters were zipping along at their peak potential. I theorized that all those years of antidepressant use had actually depleted my brain of the natural products of a healthy neurotransmitter system. I asked myself "Why not try something natural to provide food to my brain so it can rebuild its brain endorphins?" So, I ordered a supplement that contains St John's Wort. This is day three and I already feel those neuros kicking in!
So, today I came to Kelly's site to read more about the primary ingredient in this product, St John's Wort. Years ago I tried it to no avail. Why was this particular supplement working well? I have decided that's because the one I tried a few years ago was an extract, not the whole herb. AND what I am taking now also has other combined known mood brightners in it, so perhaps I'm getting a synergistic effect.
I'm here today just to share it with this board, it's called Deprex. It contains a carefully formulated combination of St John's Wort, 5HTP and DL Phenylalanine, as well as micronutrients known to brighten mood. I think the company that has put this formulation together has really done its homework. You can check it out at www.vaxa.com/630.cfm From what I undestand about VAXA, they have been successfully providing the benefits of Deprex to people who need supplemental support for brighter moods for over ten years!
Before I go hence from this message board back into the depths of the almost infinite cyber world, I want to share one other thing that has helped me balance and restore my mood. There is a lady named Kelly who has made these wonderful CDs that use an amazing technology of almost silent sine waves to coax the brain into deep Alpha, Theta and Delta states. She combines these with beautiful music to create something called binaural beats. I have only ordered one of her CDs, the one called "Sacred Ground." All I can say is that EVERY TIME I get under the headphones and put this on my Walkman, I enter an extraordinary altered state of consciousness where I am totally at peace www.brainsync.com / My "hats off" to this other Kelly, too, for her beautiful music and its ability to stimulate meditation better than the monks do it!
Will miracles ever cease? I have to pose this question as someone who was once crippled with severe depression. Now I am finally feeling my best with completely natural therapies! Again, thanks Kelly for your wonderful site and message board!
