Topic Title: Jaw cramp?
| | "Jaw cramp?" , Fri 20 Jun 04:29
I've been taking STW for about two weeks. At first I felt 100% better but then, a few days later, I seemed to get 1000% worse!! I've also been feeling a numbness in my jaw - kinda like when you feel sick (if that makes sense!) is this normal or am I getting hypacondria??!
I'm also not sure if I should continue with SJW. Has anyone else had the up then the down that I've experienced? A month ago I was against medication but I have another appointment with the doc on Monday and right now I feel like begging for anything that will give me my 'real brain' back. I've experienced depression for about ten years but never as bad as it has been recently. All I do is cry - waking up, brushing my teeth, walking to work, at work etc.etc. I'm surprised I have any moisture in my body any more!!! The worse thing is the way I'm horrible to my partner! He doesn't really understand why I get so irritable and clingy in the morning but seem to be my normal self by the afternoon!! Actually, that's another thing - my depression was always terrible first thing in the morning but fine by the afternoon, now it appears to have swapped round with me crying myself to sleep. Could this be because I take my SJW with meals? Should I perhaps take them at different times of the day? Please can someone give me some confidence that I'm not going crazy and this will get better. Feel so despondant and alone. I just want someone to understand that when I start crying or screaming at them it's not 'me' I orginally went to the doctor because I felt like I was schizophrenic. I can't believe how different this is to my real self. I just can't see how I'll ever feel better again :o(

Hi there,
I've been taking SJW for 9 weeks now and I can honestly say that I couldn't tell if it was working for the first six of them. Now I really feel better. By which, I mean to say: it takes time.
Its possible that when you felt better at first, it was because you felt like you were taking charge and doing something to make yourself feel better than because the SJW was causing your barin chemicals to work differently. Then, feeling worse may have been pure disappointment. These things are so hard to judge. But when you do start to feel better, you will know, and it will be sustainable.
I get a lot of tension in my jaw - anxiety/depression makes me grind and clench. I don't think its likely to be the SJW causing it. And muscle soreness, aches and pains are all symptoms of depression, remember. You might have to give yourself leave to feel bad for the time it takes to get used to the SJW. And tell your boyfriend how you feel. I know that my man sometimes needs me to say "You haven't done anything to upset me, being depressed is what upsets me"...
All the things you're describing are normal for depressed people. Don't give up. Take your SJW and if in another 4-6 weeks, you still feel really bad, then maybe you should talk to someone about prescribed meds.
Just hang in there! You will survive this.

Thanks!
Must say I am feeling better this week. A big chat with my other half and he admitted that he's been off with me because he didn't know how to help me and he did think that he'd done something wrong. Explaining crying when I loose my lighter in my bag was nothing to do with him made it clearer! He's a big fan of 'doing' things rather than just listening so I'm not sure if he'll ever really understand but talking with him really took a lot of pressure off.
I think you may be right about the intial lift. I did feel much better after the doctor diagnosed me with depression because at least I felt I wasn't going mad. Taking the SJW I guess I was hoping for more imediate results but then nothing worth while is ever easy eh?
Still feeling sick a lot and as a result my jaw feels weird but I think that probably is just the depression. Guess I just have to hang in there and hope for the best! Thanks for replying - it's good to know I'm not alone! Ax

I was lurking here for a week but after reading your post, you had me a little worried (probably needlessly so, but the jaw connection made me take note). Hope you're not getting too much seratonin
"The symptoms of the serotonin syndrome are: euphoria, drowsiness, sustained rapid eye movement, overreaction of the reflexes, rapid muscle contraction and relaxation in the ankle causing abnormal movements of the foot, clumsiness, restlessness, feeling drunk and dizzy, muscle contraction and relaxation in the jaw, sweating, intoxication, muscle twitching, rigidity, high body temperature, mental status changes were frequent (including confusion and hypomania - a "happy drunk" state), shivering, diarrhea, loss of consciousness and death. Well that last sentence is certainly worrying!!!!!
Thankfully I don't have any other symptoms (well none that can't be put down to my general state of mind). Spoke to the doctor about it and he said that it was probably the depression and not the SJW, which is a relief in a way. Seems every ailment I get is due to the depression, guess that means if I can improve one all the others will get sorted. Easier said than done! Ax

Great, glad to hear it's just from depression :-). I didn't want to scare you with such a dramatic piece of info, but I figured better safe than sorry...
