This is a very helpful site. I thought I would share my experience. In 1995 I went through a traumatic experience. I had a business in a foreign country which became too successful to be tolerated by my rivals. After losing a bid against me, my rivals contrived with corrupt officials and kidnapped my 3 engineers who went through all sort of torture. When I protested against it and contacted UN Human Rights and AI, I too was kidnapped with my nephew, accused of espionage, kept blindfolded underground for 14 days, interrogated daily and spent 3 months in prison in 'protective custody' where I met my engineers and came to know of their ordeal. I was released on bail, kept on fighting the corrupt system and was on an Adrenalin high for nearly a year. One of the Senators who became the Human Rights Minister finally rang me in my office and told me that the government had decided to drop charges against me. It still took another 6 months before the court was to drop all charges against me. One week after the Senator's phone call, I started feeling sleepy while at work. The sleep periods became longer and longer from 15 minutes to 4 hours a day at a stretch. I also felt lethargic. I knew my chemicals were playing havoc with my body and mind after the adrenalin got shut down. Finally I decided to see a psychiatrist who agreed with my self diagnosis and put me on Cipram (Cipramil). I was on that medicine for nearly 8 months and it helped greatly. In 1998 I returned to my present country of residence and was ok more or less until my elder brother died two years ago. I was with him for his last 14 days and helped him as much as possible. Again I was on another emergency chemicals high during that time. After he died I started feeling sleepy during the day again. I also found I could not make myself cry! I went to the doctor and told him about it and decided to go on Cipramil for one full year. I stopped taking it gradually over one month earlier this year and suffered usual side effects of dizziness for a month or so. Since then I have managed without it. I started taking St John's Wort about 3 months back and it has helped. I am taking 1800mg 3 times a day with food. I know for sure that it is not my mind but an imbalance in my body's chemicals which affects my mind. I am therefore emabarking on a spiritual exercise and see what happens
