Hi. This is my third posting to this site and so far I have found it be very helpful. I have been taking GNC brand SJW for 10 weeks today. I started at 3 capsules (900mg) per day, and just last Sunday increased my dosage to 4 capsules (1200mg) because I was not getting the ultimate effect from the SJW that I had hoped, and I had read on this site that some people need more than the standard dosage. I am taking SJW to address occasional depression but mostly constant anxiety and the resulting anger and over-sensitivity. As with the first week I started on SJW, the week following the dosage increase showed improvement. I found myself generally more relaxed and upbeat, and was less anxious and obsessive about things in my life, most importantly my relationship with my girlfriend. Within the last few days, however, exactly a week after I began taking 1200mg, I have noticed much of the anxiety and the obsessive tendencies returning. I am again creating problems in my relationship, and I find myself again searching the Internet to try to diagnose myself with a variety of mental disorders (such as BPD, which my therapist tells me is ridiculous and unfounded). Considering this relapse after my dosage increase, could it be possible that I should forgo SJW in favor of a medication? In college I was prescribed Zoloft, but didn't take it because of fear of alcohol interactions and sexual side affects. I don't want to increase my SJW dosage any further, because I think that would be unhealthy. I will say that since taking SJW, I have been sleeping much better, and not waking up in anxiety attacks as much but overall, I am understandably frustrated by the ups and downs of my SJW experience so far.

If in fact you have a serotonin deficiency you could take 5htp along with the sjw. However 5htp may increase your anxiety at first, but from my experience it helps me tremendously with irritability and anger management.

Do you think that my problem could be something other than a Serotonin re-uptake issue? I feel that considering my anxiety and OCD tendencies and the fact that I was initially prescribed Zoloft, a Serotonin deficiency is the most likely culprit. I appreciate your suggestion of 5 HTP. At this point, however, I think I am leaning towards taking the Zoloft.
