Topic Title: notes, experience and advice

I decided to try St. John’s Wort after some personal/emotional difficulties last fall and early winter. I’ve been on it since the New Year. My experience has been generally positive and the pill taking combined with other positive lifestyle changes have really improved my situation. In short, I’m back. I have to admit, I was initially very sceptical of this herbal remedy (yeah, I’m not a pill taker and tend to have an inherent distrust of all things packaged and professional be it pharmaceutical or herbal) but was truly down and out enough to give it a shot. I’m still not sure if there is some placebo effect at play, but I will stay on St. John’s Wort for the foreseeable future.
My advice for those contemplating St. John’s Wort. . .
1.) Give it a chance. Although I feel much better, I think it is still too early to tell if it is fact working. 2.) Experiment with the dosage and timing of your pill taking. Kelly’s 900 ml in the evening did not work for me. It really irritated my eyes and kept me awake ‘til the wee hours of the morning. I found that 600 mg in the morning with breakfast and 300 mg at supper works best for me. 3.) Don’t rely on the pill to fix your life. ‘Cause it won’t. My depression made me place too much faith and hope in particulars without grasping the whole. Combine the pill with other lifestyle changes.
Thanks to those who have contributed to the discussion. I’ve been anonymously reading the posts on Kelly’s site for the last month. I guess this is my way of giving back.

Would you please elaborate on this statement?
"My depression made me place too much faith and hope in particulars without grasping the whole."
I think I understand what you meant but I'm not sure.

I guess I mean to not to simply rely on the pill to fix what's wrong. When I was depressed I was grasping at straws one at time to feel better. I had to do more than just take pills. I had to talk with my girlfriend, get out more, fix what was wrong at work and take control. SJW helps but it's only part of the answer.

I agree. I'm starting to work on my life and my attitude. How does SJW help? Would you please describe the feeling? Does it help mood or energy levels. Can SJW change negative thinking?
