Topic Title: Sam-e vs. SJW
| | "Sam-e vs. SJW" , Thu 12 Dec 14:15
I wrote 3 weeks ago that SAM-e had worked better immediately for me, after 6 months on various brands of SJW, and fairly high doses. I still feel that SAM-e has helped, but the level of success seems to have tapered off for me since the first 10 days I was taking it. Possibly this is due to the fact that I had taken SJW up until the day I started SAM-e, and I was feeling a combination effect. Not sure on this, but would love to know what brands and dosage of SAM-e are working for others. I'm now taking 800mgs (still no side effects) of various different brands which I'm experimenting with (currently NatureMade and Sundown). Can anyone help with this?

I have been taking sam-e for 15 months now. I am a strong advocate of sam-e. I take 400mg daily and have never felt better in my entire lifetime. Actually, I feel that my depression is lifting somewhat. Last year at this time, if I had a glass of wine or beer, etc. after the alcohol wore off, I felt deeply negative and suffered extreme guilt feelings. It was terrible! In the past few months, I had an occasional drink or two and feel no after effects. I now feel confident, when in a social situation, to have a drink or two and not fear the after effects.I attibute my success to Sam-e.

There's always the possibility of the placebo effect causing improvement early on. Maybe you might try SJW with the Sam-e and see if it works better together. I've never tried Sam-e myself, the price scared me off:), but some really like it and say they get good results. Whatever you do keep at it. Depression seems to respect a hard determined effort. The more i work on my depression the better i do. It's only when i get lazy and careless that it sneaks back up on me. James
