Hello everybody,
I just want to give you an update. I have been taking SJW for almost 2 months now and for me it works great for everyday anxiety but like you all know I was also trying to find a way to control my anxiety when facing highly stressful situations. Kava and Valerian didn't work, (I guess I was allergic to them since they gave me too many headaches) and frankly I wasn't very exited about having to use benzos to help with high anxiety since I have never taken them before. So I decided to take SJW + 5-HTP to see if I could be helped. Well, it works!
Now I take 900mg SJW + 50mg 5-HTP + B-Complex with C and this is for everyday normal anxiety. I really don't need the 50mg 5-HTP for this but I like to keep it in my system for when the high anxiety days hit me in which I take:
600mg SJW +100mg 5-HTP + B-Complex This combination seems to really work for me.
I don't take the recommended 900mg SJW + 100mg 5-HTP everyday because I find it to be too much for me, that's why when I have to take 100mg I reduce SJW to 600mg to even it out. I'm also finding myself using this combo less and less since the combo for the everyday anxiety seems to be great. I guess eventually I'll stay with the 900+50 for both situations.
I usually take the 5-HTP 30 minutes before I eat on an empty stomach then 30 minutes later I eat and take my normal SJW dosage and I can feel within 10 to 15 minutes a big change in my anxiety and mood than if I was just taking SJW by itself.
Now I'm not just doing little things that used to give me anxiety but I'm venturing more and more to finally conquer my biggest fears.
I just wanted to share this with you. I'm still taking Sams Club's Member's Mark SJW brand which I highly recommend and for now I'm using Natrol 5-HTP but I ordered the Natures Way brand to see how it works but if it doesn't work as well I'll come back to Natrol since it's getting the job done for me.

I'm glad that you found the right combination for you. Sorry I can't say the same:(
I'm using the Nature's Way brand along with Vitamin B Complex. It's been like a week since I've been on it after leaving Spring Valley. So far I notice no change. My anxiety hasn't changed. My anxiety really gets bad when I have to take tests in school. If this brand doesn't work soon I'm going to try 5-HTP. Right now I'm starting to take 1200 mg of SJW a day to see if it helps. Also my energy level has dropped. When I first started taking SJW I had lots of energy for like the 1st 3 and a half weeks but now sometimes I feel too tired to get out of bed. Well hopefully I'll do better on 1200 mg.

Hi Karla,
I'm sorry you haven't found the right combination for depression/anxiety. It takes time to get it right. Just remember that it's your first week with Nature's Way and since it's a new brand for you it could take some time to start working. Maybe you should give it a good 4/5 weeks before changing to 5-HTP. Did Kava and Valeria work for you?
5-HTP works faster than SJW, specially if you take it on an empty stomach, (people say you shouldn't take it with proteins) for me it was a matter of 2 or 3 days before I saw any results and mainly because I started taking it on a full stomach but when I switched to 30 minutes before a meal I felt it almost immediately. SJW and 5-HTP work together quite nicely but you have to be careful not to take more than what your body needs because in my case too much SJW+5-HTP works the opposite way (more anxiety and depression).
I know many people here take 5-HTP without SJW and it has done wonders for them so you just keep experimenting until you get it right, trust me, it works but only at the right dosage and with the right combo and unfortunately everybody is different so there is no formula to use. Doctors do the same with prescription drugs; they keep experimenting until they get it right for their patients. Also some people do well with a low dosage and others with a high dosage. Keep trying and you'll eventually get it right, just listen to your body and you'll come up with a good combination for you.

Hey I haven't tried Valerian Root or Kava yet mainly because Valerian is for people with insomnia and I don't have any problems falling asleep at night. I'm thinking about trying Kava soon but I'll take it 1 time a day as I heard it's not a good idea to take high doses of it. Hopefully SJW will work best for me at 1200mg a day. My main problem is Social Anxiety and General Anxiety which sometimes makes me feel depressed.

congradulations Catz, for some inspiration, can you please describe some of the situations where you feel more control of your anxiety? I'm a couple weeks into SJW and Vitamin B with C. I'm also reading "The Phobia & Anxiety Workbook" and I enjoy reading the posts here about SJW working for people. Thanks

Hi spinningplates,
My life in general is changing, like I said before, I suffer from severe Social Anxiety and when I say this I truly mean it. All I have known since I can remember is to avoid most things in live out of fear. Well, I'm not avoiding gatherings or big family reunions anymore, also I can go to the store and stand in front of a cashier which used to be really hard for me, now I don't go into panic mode when I know I have to be around people. Neighbors where a big deal for me too since I use to avoid them at all cost but I don't do that anymore. I also don't feel so overwhelmed when I go to the mall and is full of people and I feel more comfortable at restaurants. The list goes on and on. People around me can see the change and are really happy for me and for them too since I don't make their lives so miserable with my bad temper and changes of mood.
In general life is good. Now that Anxiety is out of the picture I can see that I'm an intelligent and capable person just like anybody else and that putting aside my anxiety there isn't anything wrong with me.
But don't get me wrong, I still have Social Anxiety and I still have to work to get better by using CBT techniques and positive thinking, my goal is to one day be free of SJW, etc and still be happy and anxious free. So there is work to do here but I'm willing to do it as long as anxiety doesn't blind me to the point to where I can't function.
I'm glad your reading a book for Social anxiety, you'll find that after SJW starts working for you it will be easer to focus and to apply the CBT techniques you're learning from the book.
