my depressed boyfriend refuses to see a dr for fear of having to take meds. i want to suggest sjw as an alternative to meds. what is the best "concotion" of herbal remedies, vitamins, etc to start with? the biggest things i'd like considered are anxiety, feelings of worthlessness & sleeplessness... please help me find the best arrangement to help my boyfriend.

thanks in advance!

Well everyone is different, and what works for one person may not necessarily work for another. I'm not a doctor but if I were to recommend a concoction, I would say:

Start with 300 mg of sjw 3x/day
50 mg of 5htp 3x/day
A complex b vitamin
Exercise
Read the book "Breaking the patterns of depression” by Michael D. Yapko, Phd.
Meditation/prayer
Listen to music that is uplifting
Volunteer
Therapy

It is important for him to see a doctor in order to find out if it is a physical problem causing the depression. Do you have any alternative medicine doctors in your area?

what would a physical cause of depression be? are we talking about something other than a genetic trait? i know that many serotonin-related problems are passed thru the family... (i have my own issues from that) but when you say physical cause are we talking about an actual sickness/illness that differs from the depression family?

Thyroid problems, chronic fatigue, parkinsons, ...the list goes on.
