I was on paxil for almost four years and loved it-but didn't love the cost or the sexual side effects. Currently I've been off paxil for four months. Once again I feel myself slipping back into the grip of fear and anxiety once more. I started St. John's Wort yesterday. My body is so sensitive that I knew I would feel something almost immediately. Well last night I couldn't stop my heart from racing. Needless to say I didn't sleep well all night. Is this temporary and will it go away or should I immediately try an alternative therapy? If anyone has any opinions or guidance I would really appreciate hearing from you. Thanks for taking the time!

Hi Laura,

What you're feeling is a normal side effect, it shouldn't last more than 2 or 3 weeks (maybe less). I had heart palpitations the first week but they stopped, they were very mild and didn't last but a few seconds. They should be mild for you too BUT if they're not, then you should talk to your doctor about it and if you don't have a doctor then switching to another SJW brand might help.

Is there any chance it could be psychological? I tend to experience similar symptoms when I am starting a new drug but they usually go away and I am inclined to think that it's simply fear of what I am taking. Just a thought :)
