Topic Title: I REALLY need your help
| | "I REALLY need your help" , Sun 1 Sep 15:49:
Hi, my name is Lisa. I am 23 y/o, married and I am searching for "peace" inside. I come from a childhood of neglect and alcoholism. I do not use either one of these as an excuse for the way I try to cope with life. Rather I try to understand and gain strength from my past experiences. If you asked co-workers or family about my personality, most would say I am outgoing. I appear to be normal from the outside. I use all my strenth to gain this appearance. But inside I boil with the fear of abandonment, rejection, and simply do no feel good enough. In my research of depression I have not found the answer to my question about where depression comes from. Is it biochemical, genetics or psychlogical? I suppose it could be a combination of them all. I have had counseling on and off for years. I am fortunate to have had excellent counseling. Two years ago I was perscribed zoloft. I was and I am still not ready to start the medication. Instead, I'd like to try SJW. I bought my first bottle today at GNC. I am afraid to try it b/c I may not see results. PLEASE give any stories of success you may have. I am so scared it will not work.

Just to add to what others have said, I am a big fan of AA and Al Anon. Their approach to life's ups and down is wonderful. The readings and the meetings are great. I have been to quite a few Al Anon meetings. At first I would just listen, then I learned to find a voice during the sharing at the meetings. At first, I would just start crying. Then I gradually got to where I could talk about what is going on with me with a much lighter and accepting attitude. Don't know why, but just going to meetings helps.

Dear LazyA, Thank you for sharing your Al Anon experience. I also have been to Al Anon. I've recently moved and have yet to find a nearby group. Now that you have mentioned it, I will continue my search. I really agree with you on how great the meetings are. I think it is a wonderful feeling to connect with others who have had similar experiences! God bless and take care! Lisa

Lisa,
Best of luck to you - I'm feeling great after 3 weeks of taking SJW. I hope you have the same experience. However, I felt NOTHING for 2 solid weeks at the beginning. After week 2, I began to feel good. So, please do not expect overnight changes. I've been over a solid week feeling great!
I'm thrilled to have found SJW and to have stuck with it. I did not expect anything and was really pleasantly surprised to discover how great it is. Plus, the lack of side effects for me is super. I don't feel medicated or "on" anthing.
Please read my other 4-5 posts on here as they go into the how's and why's. There are many other success stories on here too.
If you give it 2-4 weeks and feel no improvement, please see your Doctor for alternative treatment.
Best of luck :) Let me know how it goes for you!
Joe

Dear Joe Strummer, I am sincerely thankful for your quick reply. That is just the encouragement I needed to hear. I will be patient and give SJW time. I thank God for you and I will keep your health in my prayers. I am starting the GNC brand of SJW tomorrow. I will give an update of my progress!

Apologies to Joe for contradiction, but most SJW authors suggest allowing 6 weeks before giving up on it. 6 weeks is considered the normal time to effect.
Also, please be aware that GNC make 4 different types of SJW. The Fingerprinted and Concentrated versions are not theoretically as good as the other two types.

Dear Epyx, Thank you for the update! I found similar information in the excellent book tittled "St. John's Wort, Nature's Blues Buster", written by Hyla Cass,MD. She writes, "It can take as long as six weeks for the antidepressant effects of St. John's Wort to begin." As for the GNC brands, they are now down to 2 different types of SJW: Standard and Fingerprinted. Standard is the best choice. Thank you and God Bless.

I've read that book and it's not bad. She's a bit kooky when she starts on her orthomolecular medicine advice, but she's straight up and down on SJW. She also wrote a good book called "Natural Highs" with some other guy.
