Topic Title: Progress so far...

I'm coming to the end of my first lot of St.John's Wort and started with 1 tablet a day and have now moved onto 2 tablets a day. For me it doesn't seem to matter what time of day I take them, I still find it hard to sleep at night. Though once asleep I then find it hard to get up! Had some wicked headaches last week but they seem to be fading now. I'd been on Paxil in the past and really didn't want to go down that road again. I hated the way I felt on that, even though it did help me a lot. I still have the odd moment of panic at times but I come out of that a lot faster than I used to. I find I can cope a lot better and don't feel as spaced out as I was on the Paxil. I'm going to stick with it and see how it goes...

Skylark,
I can relate, while Paxil was a big help when I was really down I would not want to be on it indefinitely. I'm glad your doing well on SJW. I've been taking it for about a week now and while I have my moments it does seem to be helping.
Good luck and keep us posted.

Hi Bill,
Yes I agree that Paxil helps in the short term when you're really on a downer but long term I couldn't face being on it either.
I'm trying two tablets of 500mg Standardised St.John's Wort @ 0.3% Hypericin at the moment. I started off on just one tablet for the first few weeks. Still having trouble getting to sleep but not as bad as I was. I think the more I dull my mind the better I sleep. I have a very active mind, it's always on the go.
How are you doing so far?

Hi Skylark,
I'm doing good not great. My anxiety was knocking at the door today which made it a three pill day. SJW does take the edge off, but I feel a really bad day could set me back. I've seen other posters on the board say it may take a couple of weeks or a month to realize the full benefit. The prescription meds are the last resort, I don't want to go back on those unless I absolutely have to.

Oops silly me hit the wrong button then...
Hi Bill,
Yes I have been told by friends that are on St John's Wort that it may take a while before you feel it working for you. Sometimes I get the odd bad day that sets me back too. I was half tempted to go back to the doctor the other day but decided to just stick it out with the St John's Wort a bit longer.

Skylark,
I have had a couple of bad days too, but the feelings tend to go away more quickly on SJW. Stay tough and don't let this thing beat you. I went to an amusement park last Saturday and I felt a lot of anxiety when I arrived, but after I started to do some things and channel my thoughts toward the good stuff I did pretty well. And let me tell you, the lines for one ride were about 30 minutes each and it was really hot.......but my anxiety stayed away with the help of SJW and redirecting my thoughts.
Hang in there.
Bill
