Hi everyone. Was recently diagnosed with anxiety and a bit of depression due to recent circumstances that happened to me all in a 4 month period (i.e. cancer, surgery, chemo, radiation and the unexpected death of my father). I tried 3 anti-d's but all gave me horrible side effects. Am currently taking Ativan but know it is addictive - don't want that! I am considering SJW and would like some advice and input into its side effects, if it really does work for most, etc. Any help would be most appreciated! Keep on smiling! Thanks!

hi, just read your email, and just want to say, please dont carry on with the ativan, go back to your g.p and ask for something else, i was addicted to ativan for seven years 15 years ago, it was the worse time of my life, i cannot remember hardly anthing about that time, i was so monged out..... the difference with them and anti depressants id that once your stabalised on anti depressants you stay on the same dose for howevewr long you need it,but with ativan, it is no addictive that you have to keep uping the dose to get the same effect, and when i couldnt up the dose, i got terrible withdrawls such as panic attacks, and anxiety attacks, im sure that was what was the start of depression, when i did come off of them, with the help of my g.p. she said that i should give myself a pat on the back, becasue coming off of ativan, is worse than coming off of heroin, becasue with heroin, you have a crutch which is methodone,and you can slowly wean yourself off of this as well, but with ativan it is you and you alone that has to cope withthe cold turkey..... and believe me it was horrendous..... so please dont take it any more, try sjw what have you got to lose.......

i don't know about kicking in after 2 weeks. i am taking 3 pills a day for a week and half now and it kicked in pretty much right away. you are supposed to give a 2 week rest between starting a new pill. ask a herbalist or your doc if you are switching. i agree with everyone on how it helps. i am new on it though. very few side effects. but watch out! your skin becomes quite sensitive to the sun. just like tetracycline does to a person. you gotta definitely be wearing sun screen.
i have also heard taking vit b complex with it helps. vit b complex is a stress reliever and helps your energy and brain i think for memory. i am taking both.

Hi.
I just wanted to tell you that I've had depression for years. Alot of things have happened to me in my life and for a very long time I didn't want to face the fact that I had a problem. My husband and my best friend were the ones who actually saved my sanity.
I started taking St. Johns Wort a few years ago but I didn't know what it was for. I thought it was an energy booster until my doctor told me different. It still didn't register.
Well now since I've been on it, it has changed my life. No more depression. My relationship with my husband and my family has tremendously improved. I now cherish life and try to make everyday count.
It might not be for everyone but it saved my life.

Sounds like you have had a rough time!! I have found that SJW has very little side effects. I have been taking 600mg's a day - 300 in the morning and 300 in the evening. takes a couple of weeks to kick in but generally does the job for me. Hope it goes well for you, be lucky!!

Thank you Chopper for the good advice! As long as I know that it does take a couple of weeks to "kick in", I will try it. I'll let you know what happens! Anything is better than the conventional AD's - I have heard such horror stories from other people who are still on them. Glad I don't take them! Again - many thanks for responding. God Bless.
