Topic Title: colustrum making me down
| | "colustrum making me down" , Sun 3 Jul 23:40
Hi all, I started taking colustrum for the past 1 week and it is making feel low. I had these symptoms before when i was not taking 5-HTP. After taking 5-HTP, i was feeling great!. But colostrum is negating the good effects 5-HTP in my case. Also i am having terrible speech related problems. It is getting difficult in completing a single sentence.
Robo, you said that it will cause some bad side-effects initially and actually make one feel down. I think i am facing the same symtoms here. I will keep on using it despite this. Iam taking 2 spoons of colustrum with each sppon having 1.2g of colustrum (from NOW foods).
Just wanted to let you all know about colustrum. I still feel it is temporary and it might take longer for me to see some positive effects.
Please let me know how it is working on you guys. thanks.

Hey lsgv, sorry about your symptoms. I did feel down for the first month or two when I was taking it, but it went away. I don't have any problems like that anymore, however, I don't want to tell you to keep taking it if it's really bothering you. I do know that if you decide to quit taking it you won't have any permanent side effects. If you don't think it's helping you after a couple weeks, then your probably better off without it. I felt a big change after the third day, so I would think that it would effect everybody after a few days. I hope you feel better.

Hey Robo, thanks for the reply. Did you say you felt a big change after 3 days? Is the change for good or bad, like keeping you down. You also said that for 1-2 months, you didn't feel good. What symptoms did you have at that time? Did you have difficulty in talking or saying specific words?
In my case, i didn;t feel anything few days after i started taking except that now i am more prone to negative thoughts in social situations. Also, my face looks more tired than earlier when i used to look active while i was on 5-HTP. I think these are minor things and i want to still continue using it, atleast a month. As long as these symptoms do not deteriorate, i don;t have any problem. If it gets too much unbearable, then i will have to resort to the last step of taking it out. But i still have faith in it and i don't think these should last for ever..
I also want to take 'Whey Protien' to get some extra strength with muscles. Any thing for me so that i don;t get tired easily.

Hi lsgv, The effect I felt after three days was definitely a positive one. I noticed right away that it was a lot easier to speak up and look people in the eye. I felt like a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders. I did feel a little bit down but it wasn't anything serious, I was used to dealing with depression at the time and I was just happy about getting better with my s.a. I've talked to a few people that have taken it and are still taking it, and they all said they felt down for awhile at first. But they said it definitely was correcting their problems and the down feeling eventually went away. Are you still taking the 5-htp, I don't know anything about it but I'm wondering if maybe you are going through some withdrawals. I don't want to give you bad advice or anything, but I think that if the 5-htp was helping you with you then colostrum might do the same thing if not better. Colostrum has vitamins, minerals, fatty acids and lots of other mind nutrients in it. So hopefully if you stick it out you'll start noticing changes, and I'm pretty sure the down feelings will go away eventually. Do you think you have social anxiety disorder, I just want to get an idea if your symptoms are the same as mine. Also, have you tried sjw or antidepressants, I'm wondering if you've tried them and you felt any different. Thanks.

Hi Robo, Today, suddenly i seemed to feel much better. I would like to see this continue and hopefully i will get better and better. I was talking much more fluently today. I am still using 5-HTP, but since taking colostrum, i was not very consistent in taking it. Sometimes i missed the dosage deliberately. I used to take 200mg perday. But right now i am taking 100mg sometimes. Eventually, i want to do away with 5-HTP if i find colostrum helping me a lot. Do you think the colostrum effect will go away after long usage? I fear 5-HTP might not be useful after prolonged usage.
I am still taking fish oil. I have read some many benefits from it that i will not stop taking this ever, unless something really bad is happening due to its use.
I have a social anxiety and social phobia. I really get nervous in public and social gatherings. My face looks very depressed and my mood is very low during that time. That is my way of coping things. People can easily notice my problem and see something wrong with my face. It would be difficult for me to even look at their faces for fear of rejection and humiliation. I get tense in meetings and rarely open my mouth. It is hard for me to smile during the social situations and o lok tired and sleepy. On the top of that, i don;t have fluency. I stop while i talk and it is difficult for me to pronounce certain words. I talk fast sometimes and then had to repeat slowly for others to understand. Stopping in between a sentence is very embarassing. My voice is also very low. If i have to make myself audible where there is noise, i really have to shout on the top of my voice. That is quite awful, people think i am yelling at them:-)
So i definitely have SA/SP. I used to take Effexor last year for 2 months. It helped a lotjust like 5-HTP. but i had to discontinue because of sideffects. I never tried these for the past 1 yr as i didn't believe these herbal medicines will cure. I never tried SJW. I will try that if everything fails. Thanks for your time.

Hi lsgv, I'm glad you're feeling better. You're social problems sound the same as mine. Reading your symptoms was like reliving old times. I can remember going through those same things, I used to shout a lot because I didn't know how to speak at a normal level.
But I've come a long way since I've been on colostrum, I've been on it for 7 or more months now and it still works just as good. So I'm pretty sure it works well in long term use. I feel better and better every day and I'm learning more and more about what it's like to feel normal. It's a strange journey, but it's definitely a good one. Lemon balm has also been helpful in a different way these last couple weeks, although I built up an immunity to it so I'm just going to have to take it on special days.
I don't want to bore you but I heard a pretty good story recently and I found it motivating. It was about a shockput thrower who practiced with a ball that was way heavier than regulation. He thought he wasn't very good for many years because he couldn't throw it very far. But after a long time of perseverance he was throwing far enough to try out for the olympics. When he got there they gave him a standard shockput and he nearly threw it out of the building. I thought this story mimicked the struggle with social anxiety. After the weight is lifted off, people with s.a. will go farther than anyone else. Just something to think about. Good luck.

I read somewhere that colostrum helps repair the gi tract making whatever you take whether it be a medication or a natural supplement more stronger. In some cases the med can be reduced,or natural supplement in your case, and get the same effect.I've noticed that the st johns wort I've been taking has a more pronounced effect since starting colostrum.

I never thought about it like that. I'm still on the anti-depressant so it might be that colostrum is just improving the medication. Although, the friend I've mentioned before who was helped with depression, wasn't on any thing else. It would be nice if someone researched it in a large group of people with different problems.

My symptoms have not improved much till now and so i decided to stop taking colostrum. I have a big get together comeing sometime in august and so i may plan to attend it. I do not want to have these symptoms during that time and so i decide to stop it temporarily. I will continue it again later.
As far as colostrum improving the effects of other medicines, i can say i didn't experience that. I am taking 5-HTP and it didn;t help me with that. Probably it helps in the long run, i am not sure.
