Topic Title: colostrum, the 6 hour miracle
| | "colostrum, the 6 hour miracle" , Thu 2 Jun 21:40
hi, I've been taking colostrum for six month's now. It has helped me a lot with my s.a.d. and depression. It is the nutrition produced in breast milk the first six hours after birth. It is taken from cow's and it has a lot of added health benefits. I haven't been sick since I started taking it. They have been finding more and more good information about it since they started researching it. But they haven't studied it for anxiety disorders and depression. I heard about it from a friend who had depression and said it helped them out a lot. So I tried it specifically for my s.a.d. I was already taking an antidepressant, (remeron), that I liked because it had no sexual side effects. It helped me with my depression but I still had a lot of problems socially. Since I've been taking colostrum I've gotten over a lot of those problems, like speaking up and looking people in the eye. I still have some underlying problems so I am considering cognitive behavior therapy. When you first start taking colostrum it will immediately kick in after a few days. Then you can start lowering your doses, I started off taking three capsules twice a day on an empty stomache and now I just take one once a day. It is important to lower your levels because it gives you a lot of energy. Through trial and error I have figured out the best doses for me. I wish there was some research on it for these purposes, I think a lot more people would know and hear about it.

Hi Robo-
Personally my otherwise normal libido went somewhere south of Tierra Del Fuego after just three days on colostrum. I don't think I'll be taking it any more. I did a little more reading around the internet. Colostrum seems to be high in prolactin, and raised prolactin levels seem to be a sex-drive killer in men as they get older, just the opposite effect of the feel-good, sex-enhancing neurotransmitter dopamine. If you don't mind me asking, (cough) how's your sex drive/life?

Hi, I haven't experienced any lessened libido since I've been on it. I'm only 25 though, so maybe that has something to do with it. This is the first time I've heard about colostrum effecting anyone this way. But I guess there's a down side to everything. I did experience lowered libido with anti-depressants and a beta-blocker, inderal, but it went away when I stopped using them. Are you taking any other medications? There's also a lot of herbs that are good for libido out there, maybe if colostrum is helping you at all you can try some of them? Just a thought.

Hi Robo-
Do you still take the anti-depressant, along with the colostrum?

Yes I do, the reason I still take the antidepressant is that I am hooked on it. Whenever I try to quit I feel whacked out. But colostrum is like a vitamin, so you can take it with pretty much anything.

This seems to be similar to tryptozen from the same brand symbiotics. There is no mention of anxiety reduction with Colostrum but it was mentioned for tryptozen. Wonder what the difference is.

The difference between colostrum and tryptozen is that tryptozen relaxes you and brings regular anxiety levels down. Like being nervous or your heart beating to fast, or being really shy. Colostrum fixes deep rooted social anxiety disorder, which is different than regular anxiety. With s.a.d. your not just nervous or shy, or having a hard time around people. You are inable to function, inable to speak, inable to look people in the eye, inable to breathe. You have something inside that tears away at your mind, pulling you down like claws digging into your well being. It effects everything, from the way you think, to your relationship with your mom. A lot of people I meet say they have social anxiety disorder, but they confuse that with having a hard time socially or having anxiety in social settings. It's a fine line, but the main thing is that true s.a.d. can not be fixed by relaxants or sedatives. They only help a little bit for a short time, and then they make things worse. Colostrum won't calm you down, but it will fix s.a.d., if their is something chemically wrong with you, you will definitely feel a difference. That's why so many people who try things like sjw, and antidepressants never feel change. They'll tell you it did'nt work for them, and they may have a lot of problems, or as many problems as anyone else, but they don't have their internal makeup set to the wrong function. The same thing goes for being chemically depressed, and just being depressed. It's hard to understand, and I always confuse people when I explain this, but for people who have been there, they know exactly what I'm talking about.

That sounds interesting. I am right now taking 5-HTP + fish oil + vitamins + B100. I seem to stay calm and my anxiety has come down much. I will try colostrum if it doesn;t have any side effects with the ones i am taking..hopefully not..what is the price, by the way. They didn;t list it on their web site..Did you shop around for the best available price in the market like from iherb, vitacost..i have to be price conscious because i am just spending too much money on these supplements :-)

I take the NQI brand, I get it from my local whole foods market for about 28 dollars. I haven't really shopped around or tried any other brands. But most of the time, if they say it is 100% pure whatever, it is good. I also have been taking 5-htp, fish oil and b-vitamins for about a week, even though I might not need them. There just isn't enough research on colostrum to tell me otherwise so I'm just taking everything I can to become completely normal, which is what all of us want. And I don't have any problems mixing them. It is pricy to take all of these things, but If you think that colostrum might help you for true s.a.d. and not just regular anxiety, then take the risk and buy one bottle. Like I said before, if you take three capsules twice daily on an empty stomache and you do have the chemical defect, you will definitely a change in your makeup within a week, for example, take three in the morning when you first wake up and take three in the afternoon about three hours after lunch. Also, after you take your doses wait a half hour before eating. It will be well worth your time if it helps you, and if colostrum does help you and it's costing you a lot, then you can cut out 5-htp, fish oil, or b-vitamins because somehow colostrom does the trick. I have learned from taking colostrum that true s.a.d. and things like anxiety, shyness,or fear of people, are completely different things. I had both of them, that's why I thought getting on one right medicine would fix all of my problems, and it surely didn't. After getting on colostrum a lot of things changed in me, thank God, but I still had a lot of problems socially, and I couldn't figure it out. So I got on Inderall and that stopped my heart from beating to fast. With this addition I got even better, but I still had problems. After being on the Inderall for six months I got off of it, because I felt like that area of my disorder was all better and that other people quit it with no problems. It had been a week and I felt like I still had control over my heart racing, but I was still not completely better. So just a few days ago I started researching herbal remedies, besides sjw, and I found a whole list of herbal relaxants. I bought valerian root from wal-mart, tried that and got discouraged because I felt drugged up. I just want to be normal, not zoned out, it felt like I was on xanax, which I used to take a few years ago that led me to serious narcotics and I almost lost my life. So I don't want anything to do with something like xanax, valerian had all the same properties, the next morning I felt groggy and weird, and all I could think of doing was taking more of it. So I threw out the whole bottle. I thought that all herbal relaxants might be like that and I told myself I wouldn't try anymore, but I had already ordered passiflora extract and lemon balm through the mail. Just yesterday I received them, I decided to try out for whatever reason, and take them one at a time to see what they did exactly. The passiflora was kind of like inderal because it acted like a beta blocker but it also gave me a feeling of calm. And unlike inderal it had no sex side effects, in fact it's probably good for you. Then I tried the lemon balm after I knew what the passiflora was like and it made me feel great, I felt relaxed and like my true self. My cousin and her friends came over a little bit later to hang out, and I was really worried about it, but I did better than I ever have in my whole life, I couldn't believe it. I felt normal, not sedated or drugged up, I felt safe. Then this morning I still felt great, no grogginess or anything, I felt completely normal. So I have also ordered skullcap, motherwort, and niacinamide just to try out some more different ones and see what happens, and there's a lot more out there, go to a sight www.chs.edu.sg/gep/insomnia/herbs.html and it will list a bunch of them, then do research on each one and figure out the best ones for you. I also learned about aromatherapy from www.consciouschoice.con/1995-98/cc113/herbs113.html , where you take oils like lavender, and germanium and put them in a hot bath or rub them on your skin, which I would also like to try. I think I finally have a complete recipe for s.a.d. and anxiety, colostrum and herbal relaxants. So if anybody feels like these things could help I would recommend them in a heart beat, for me so far I feel for the first time in my life that I can actually beat this thing, and be just as good as anyone else.

Hi Robo-
Thanks for sharing all your information. How do you know that the relief of your depression has not been from the 5-htp and/or fish oil and/or b-vitamins? All three of those supplements are known to relieve depression for some people, even as a single supplement.

Thanks a lot for the info. I am on 5-HTP for last 4 weeks and i wan tto continue for atleast 2 more weeks. I am am seeing lot of benefits from it. I will try colostrum after 2 weeks and see how it works with the speech problems. If my fluency is increased, i don;t ask any more than that. I will be the happiest man on earth. HTP is not doing anything on fluency. I still stop while talking and difficult words do not come very easily and especially looking into one's eye and talking is still a major problem for me. But my anxiety has decreased and negative thoughts have decreased and i am feeling very good about myself. thanks.

Thanks for taking the time to respond, and hearing what I have to say. The reason I know that the colostrum has cured my true s.a.d. and not reg. anxiety is that I have been on it for six months now. And I was cured in that area from the third day on. I went from not being able to get the words out of my mouth to speaking like a politician, and I have been able to do lot's of other functions that normal people take for granted. But I must warn you, just so you don't give up on it if you decide to try it, the first few weeks are a kind of confusing and you might feel a little bit down. Both me and my sister felt down at first, she is manic depressive, and she thought it was helping her but she quit taking it after the second week. After a month or so those symptoms went away for me, and I felt fine. I tried to convince her to give it another chance but she wouldn't hear of it. She didn't want to feel down at all. But on the other hand, the friend that recommended it to me in the first place. Who was also seriously depressed, stuck with it, and now she's completely better without any complaints. I think the reason for these side effects is that colostrum cleans out your system, it brings out all your impurities. So at first when your body is going through all these changes it effects you. Its really nothing to fret over, the good outweighs the bad by far. Just remember to lower your doses once it kicks in. And your not going to be completely better after the third day, but you'll be so improved that you won't worry about it at all. You will be speaking with ease and looking people in the eye after it kicks in, but there's more to it. You would have to try it to know what I'm talking about. It's just inevitability, that you can't go from being completely s.a.d. and/or depressed to being completely better at a moments notice. It takes time, although colostrum worked way faster than anything else I've tried, including sjw and anti-depressants. I know now after six months, that I am completely cured in that area of my illness. I have only been on 5-htp, fish oil, and b-vitamins for just a week now, and I really haven't felt a difference from them. I think that colostrum supplied all of those things together and more. But I wanted to take them just to aid in defeating my worst enemy. I'm like a warrior fighting for the right to live, using every weapon I can get my hands on. The only thing left to cure, was my regular anxiety(nervousness), shyness, and fear of people. But I must say again, that the last few days I've been taking passion flower and lemon balm, and I feel great, this other area of illness has now also been cured. I ecspecially like the lemon balm because somehow it brings out the best in me and makes me feel at ease. But the passion flower is also good because it really relaxes me. I feel like a real person now, just today I held a conversation with my aunt over the phone for 20 minutes. I couldn't believe it, I usually can't talk for 5 seconds let alone 20 minutes. Before, everytime I heard the phone ring I wanted to dig a hole and bury myself in it. But today I didn't want to hang up, I got to say everything I wanted to say, and the way I wanted to say it. I felt completely calm. It's like I've been in prison all my life, and now that I'm free all I want to do is the things I couldn't do before. It was perfectly natural, that's the way it's supposed to be, we shouldn't have to struggle to speak or give it one second of thought. It should just come out on it's own in response to what happens around us.
p.s. Saw Palmetto Harvesting Co. has great deals on passion flower, and Nature's way is the brand I've been taking for lemon balm.

That one looks o.k., but I'm not really experienced with different brands. The one I take, NQI, also has 500mg of colostrum per capsule and the only other ingredients are fat, protein, vitamin A, and calcium. So as long as is it is a good supplier, hopefully it will be a good product. Make sure it says 100% first milking colostrum.

Hi Lotus-
Which specific Symbiotics colostrum product are you using? There seem to be a bunch at iHerb.com. Also, how much are you taking? Thanks for any info.
-H2Obuffalo
P.S. The one you mentioned in your earlier post looks like Jarrow brand. Did you decide not to use that?

I bought mine at my local health food store because I wanted to get it quick and see if it would help.I bought the 2.25oz powder with a yellow label,it just says NEW LIFE COLOSTRUM standardized It's 100% pure with no fillers, but I payed about $32.00,so I"ll probably order my next batch from iherb, maybe the NOW foods brand, they're pretty reputable.I take 2tsp a day which averages out to about 3grams.

Here's another website that sells the NOW foods brand a little cheaper than iherb, they are a good company. I ordered some phenibut from them a while back and it got to me in about 2 days.Plus there's one positive review on it's mood enhancing effects. http://www.1fast400.com/?products_id=549

Tee-hee-hee, you sound like me. Thanks for all the info. I live in a remote place, but I'll order some and when it eventually gets here I'll give it a try. Hey, doesn't that black and green website kind of give you the creeps, though? "Monster Maker" it says. I'm trying to go in the opposite direction, from feeling like a strange monster to feeling like myself again. :- )

Yeah, that's because it's a website mainly for bodybuilders.Too much testosterone, but they are trustworthy and that's what counts.

Hey Lotus, I'm glad that it's working for you, I hope you continue to have success with it. Remember that you can start lowering your doses once you feel safe about it. And that will save you a lot of money. I only take one for two days in a row, and then I skip a day. But I've been on it for awhile. Just test it out and find what's best for you. Also, if you have a few extra dollars I would recommend taking lemon balm along with colostrum. Colostrum seems to give me a lot of energy and lemon balm evens me out without making me tired or groggy. It also makes me feel really good and happy, I feel perfectly calm even talking to strangers now. It's only about 4.79 at iherb for 100. I take two capsules three times a day with my meals. I just ordered some of the oil as well because you can take it on an empty stomache, and I'm hoping it will kick in a lot faster.

Does any one suggest which is better, powder or capsules? 3 capsules twice a day and along with other capsules i am taking will be too many for me. But the powder is little expensive compared to capsules.
Also, did any one of you who started recently find any help with the fluency while talking?
thanks.

For me the anxiety has come down,I seem to have more energy during the day and I sleep better at night.I also recently switched to a hypericin standardized brand of SJW and it has reduced my anxiety signifacantly,I had been taking Perika for a while which seemed to do nothing for my anxiety.I think the colostrum along with this standardized SJW is an excellent combination. And as per Robo's suggestion I may give the Lemon Balm a try.
As far as capsules vs powdered colostrum,I really don't think it matters as long as you get a reputable brand. As far as price you may want to try here, they offer the NOW brand at a decent price.

Lotus, thanks a lot. I went to the website and ordered colostrum and my 5-HTP as well. I was using Jarrows for 5-HTP but i will try NOW Foods and see how it is.
The site http://www.colostrum.com.sg has information about how powder colostrum is better for absorption than the capsules. So i thought it is better buy a powder.
Another good site i found was www.vitacost.com . Here you will find better prices then iherb. I found Country Life's Omega-3 Mood at the lowest price. The shipping cost is same $5.
