I'm not depressed but I have social anxiety. I fear of speaking infront others and very anxious around other people. I always think what other might think if speak infront of others. I feel very shy while walk around in the office.
After reading lot of posts in this website, I decided to take SJW. I bought it from Safeway. The product is SAFEWAY SELECT St. John's Wort, Standardized Hypericin 0.3%. I have been taking last 2 weeks. First 2 days I felt great. My shyness and anxiety gone little bit. After that SJW stopped working.
Am I taking the right product?. Because some people in this site talking about Hyperforin. Can you please someone in this site direct me to the right direction. I am very desperate. Hope you all understand that

I've been taking Amoryn for about a month for mild depression. I've noticed an improvement and plan to continue taking it.
I did some research before choosing this brand. I was encouraged by their claim to use pharma-grade ingredients and higher concentrations of the active ingredients.

Yes I believe you're takign the right kind. you should take at least 900mg a day from what I know. Are you taking enough? If you've only been taking it 2 weeks.. that's not long enoughfor it to work. Even if you did find it to work the first couple days cause it could be the placebo effect.. It takes weeks for it to work. Just like other prescriptiion medications. Anyway just stick with it :) I've been using it for 5 weeks and just starting to feel better. Good Luck!
Also you might want to try after 6 weeks adding somethign else if you find it not working. I just addded 5-htp seeing if that does anything more :)

I am taking 300mgx3 per day. I will take another 4 nore weeks. Lets see.
What brand are you taking?.

Hi No promblem.. seems like not many reply on this board.. maybe it's an old board and not very active anymore? I danno :) I'm new to St. John's Wort but I did a lot of reading and it seems that 900mg-1200mg is the normal dose. I myself won't go past the 900 mg.. I'm going to see if this 5-htp added into the mix has a good effect. I have been suffering from depression for oh about 3 years. As a kid I've been very shy and had OCD.. grew out of that.. although I'm still fairly quiet. I went on Effexor(antidepressant) 2 years ago and I was able to be much more my true self and didn't care what others thought of me at all. It was a great feeling but the side effects were awful. So I'm trying St. John's wort and other vitamins and herbs to see if I can feel that way again without the Effexor. Hoping it works!
Good luck! btw I take my 900 mg at once. Everyone takes it differntly. I was taking Swiss Fomula.. standerdized(it's important to make sure it's standerdized) But now I have a new brand from GNC .. I will start that as soon as I post this message to you. I think I'll just take 2 then one before bed.. it has other things added to it and not sure how it will effect me :)

Thanks. What is the difference between Hypericin and Hyperforin?>
I have been taking Safeway product which is standardized to 0.3% Hypericin. Not Hyperforin. I've read in this forum that Hyperforin is responsible for curing anxiety and shyness whereas Hypercin for anxiety. Is that true?.
Also what about Gotu Kola?.

I can relate to both of you. I have severe shyness and anxiety. I get very tired and totally withdrawn infront of people in meetings/parties. My voice drops low and it is difficult to talk in such a situation. I cannot even hear my own voice:-) it gets so low.
In the past effexor helped me a lot but due to severe sideeffects, I had to withdraw. I want to achieve the same effect with the SJW, but i never tried till now. Yesterday, i went to walgreen and found Nature's brand. I am not sure how good it is. Right now i am taking SYnthroid for hyperthyroidism. Does anyone know if it is ok to take SJW with Synthroid? I will also try SJW +5-HTP over the long run.
Also i am just wondering if anyone is from Austin, TX here. I just want to talk and see if they know a good psychotherapist here.

The only thing that's bad to take with SJW is some drug used for treatment of HIV. I forget what.. but if you want to make sure ask your DR.

Liz, I saw in a website that SJW will decrease the effect of synthroid when taken together. It also listed lot of other drug interactions, so i guess evry one has to read that before making any decisions.
For me, i will wait until i stop using synthroid and then i will shp for a good sjw brand.
Right now, i want to check if 5-HTP or SAMe should be taken or not.

hmm strange my doctor read from her herb book that it was ok with other drugs. Best thing to do would probably ask your own doctor. The web is full of information but hard to say what's right or not.
