Topic Title: no more prescriptive drugs!!

My first time here, I'm going to whine.
I'm 34 years old and I have been dealing or not dealing with depression for many years. I have been on approx. 7 or so medications perscribed from my doctor. I just can't do it any more. Too many side effects. I have been off of medication's for approx. 4 years now. Not good. I have turned to alcohol(not on purpose)because I didn't want the Prozac's the Zoloft's and all the rest. It's come to the time that alcohol isn't working for me either, not that I ever expected it would ever turn out this way, not something that I'm proud of or happy with either.
I'm 34, married, don't sleep well, don't want to go to sleep, don't want to wake up, eat too much, eat too little, go through eating disorders(hide it well, blame it on depression), don't want to have sex with my husband(who is by the way one of the most understanding persons) and only married for a year. It just continues and carries on to all walks of your life.
This has gone on for so long. Combinations of of natural pills and vitamins to get on the road to happiness would be nice.
I've heard about B6, Folic acid, 5htp, SJW and Sam-e. For other women out there, what can you suggest?

Dear Thor,
One of the confusing aspects of so-called 'alternative' treatments to depression is that there are so many different types of product. You have mentioned four or five treatments, but if you leaf therough the pages of this message board you will find literally dozens.
On top of this there are often umpteen different brands for each product and the doseage instructions can vary considerably.
My advice would be to start with a good quality St. John's Wort product and see how you get on.
Either nip down your local health food store and ask for their advice on a decent SJW product or have a look at the opinions on this Board. Perika by Nature's Way is a well-respected product and is easily available on the internet - try www.mynutrition.com or www.iherb.com
Good luck,
Sheephead.
