Perika from Natures Way comes highly recommended by me. I started in May 2003 and have been on it ever since. Try it for 2 months before making any decision. It is a wonderful product. Do a google search on it to get more info on the German company that produces it.

Hi. I have not been on this board for a while. I still recommend Perkia from Nature's Way. Try it for 2 months before making judgements, and you may need to increase your dosage. Take it with food 3 times per day. Important to take it with food.

SJW products standardized to hyperforin work well for some people and work badly for others. Perika made me feel HORRIBLE and only got worse the longer I stayed on it. On the other hand, hypericin-standardized products work very well for me. The majority of SJW products are standardized to hypericin.

The majority of people here have had great experiences on Perika, however some like H20Buffalo have had poor experiences. I agree with H2O on the Hyperforin vs. Hypericum idea. Hypericum helps people to feel soothed while Hyperforin helps people who have little motivation and concentration. For me, I suffered from anxiety and depression and tried GNC. GNC worked well and I recommend it, however Perika gave me the kick I really needed. Anyone planning on trying St. John's wort should try one of the top brands listed on this site. Perika, Kira, Amoryn or GNC Standardized. Try the first product for 8 weeks before switching. Some strange effects may take place the first 2 weeks, so do not quit until you have completed the trial run before judging the product. Remember, Perika may not be for everyone, but it is powerful and does effect you, and it is standardized.

Hi there,
I was interested to read your post as I too am currently suffering from anxiety and depression and am hunting around for the best supplement to take. It started four weeks ago and has been constant ever since. I don't know the cause.
I have bought some St John's Wort, and some Amoryn and also some SAM-e. I have heard various things about all of them and am unsure about how to proceed. Your post highlights various other products that I have never heard of.
Would you have any advice from your experience? My anxiety is the restless, constantly thinking kind. I get panic attacks but only very rarely. Usually I keep the anxiety under control but it is hard and exhausting. My depression is a constant low mood with waves of it being very bad indeed. I do not have problems with energy - I am still working and find work and other activities a good distraction for me. I am going to sleep at night but the anxiety wakes me up several times in the night and I feel like if I could beat the sleep problem I would feel better.
so with all that in mind do you think I should take something that is standardized to hypericum rather than hyperforin?
Have you heard of something called GABA? I have also heard some people rave about the calming effects of this and that it regulates sleep.
any advice appreciated!
Thanks

| | | "GERMAN STUDY - PERIKA BETTER THAN PAXIL" , Tue 5 Apr 12:13
A recent German study shows that extract of the herb St. John's wort was found to be slightly more effective than the widely prescribed antidepressant Paxil for people with moderate to severe depression. The extract used in the German study was a dietary supplement by Nature's Way products sold under the brand name Perika. (Article copied from About.com)
