Final question... wothwhile, or better off buying the main active ingredients separately and establishing one's own regimen?

I'm not a doctor but a do have a college degree in Psych took quite a bit of biology, chemistry, etc. in college. I also spend a lot of time reading about natural alternatives, so I feel like I have a pretty good handle on these products.

Before I give my take on each product, let me briefly point out that more ingredients isn't necessarily better. Many formulas try to pack in every ingredient that's rumored to be helpful. But you can only fit so much into one or two capsules, so you end up with doses of each ingredient that are way too small to have a significant effect. You'll see better results with a formula that provides effective doses of one or two PROVEN ingredients.

ANXIUS:
Frankly, this formula is all over the place. L-tyrosine and DL-phenylanine may help with fatigued depression (by inreasing motivation and energy), but they're likely to worsen anxiety. Passion Flower will help with anxiety, but not depression. And many of the ingredients, like the Vinpocetine and Huperzine, are most likely to improve memory and cognitive function but probably won't do much for mood. If you have depression, you're better off combining the L-tyrosine and DLPA with high quality St. John's Wort. If you have anxiety, I'd recommend purchasing Passion Flower separately. But I don't think this formula is optimal for either depression or anxiety.

PURECALM:
This formula may be helpful for anxiety, but only the Passion Flower is backed by significant clinical research. And it's missing ingredients such as Kava, Valerian and L-theanine that are likely to have an even greater effect.

MINDSOOTHE:
This would be a good formula for anxious depression IF the St. John's Wort was standardized for hyperforin... but it's not, so it will have little or no effect. You're better off buying a hyperforin-standardized SJW product (such as Perika or Amoryn) separately and combining it with Passion Flower and other anxiety-reducing ingredients.

CLAROCET:
At first glance combining SJW with SAM-e sounds great, but if you actually look at the doses of the ingredients in ClarocetERT, you'll see that it's a perfect example of too many ingredients at too small doses. Each capsule only contains 175mg SJW extract, so you'll need to take 3-5 capsules to get an effective dose of SJW (which is 2-3 bottles per month). And the dose of SAM-e is ridiculously small at 35mg. Since the active dose of SAM-e is 400-1600mg, you'll have to eat 10-45 caps EVERY DAY to get a significant dose. While it does contain a decent dose of 5-HTP, the doses of Valerian and Kava are also far too small. By the time you take enough ClarocetERT to actually help, you're gobbling dozens of capsules and spending hundreds of dollars per month. Again in this instance, you're better off taking a high-quality SJW separately and adding the other ingredients such as SAM-e, Kava, 5-HTP as necessary.

DEPREX:
Another example of too many ingredients at ridiculously small doses. To get active doses of all 15 ingredients, you'd have to take at least 20 or 30 capsules daily. If you take the recommended dose of Deprex, you'll end up getting 5-10% of the effective dose of each ingredient... which means you'll probably get no effect. You can't multiply 7% x 15 ingredients to get 100% effectiveness... you're better off taking appropriate doses of one or two ingredients.

AMORYN:
Of all the formulas, I like Amoryn the best because it's the only one that contains a full dose (450mg per capsule) of hyperforin-standardized SJW. Just with this, most people should see good results with only one or two capsules daily. The dose of 5-HTP (25mg per capsule) is small for some, but high doses of 5-HTP can cause side effects, so it's probably best to err on the low side... it's easy to take additional 5-HTP. And the doses of B vitamins, selenium and D3 are also in the effective range. There's solid research showing that these ingredients are often deficient in people with depression, so most people taking SJW will probably benefit from taking these. Most important, though, is the fact that Amoryn contains the effective dose of SJW, the ingredient backed by the most research. This is going to work much better than taking small doses of 10 different unproven ingredients.

I should mention that I've tried only PureCalm, Clarocet, and Amoryn. My opinions don't reflect my personal experience, but rather my analysis of the ingredients.

The old adage "The sum of the whole is greater than its parts" holds true here. I suffered severe panic attacks following the birth of my child. I tried Zoloft, but the day after just one dose I experienced multiple and horrible panic attacks. Online research led me to discover in some people Zoloft can have this adverse affect. I finally found Clarocet NRI and within 24 hours of just one pill I felt relief I hadn't known in many months. As the directions read, I tried 1 pill a day for a week then upped to 2 a day. I didn't even have the sensation of possible panic attacks that I'd previously known.

The bottom line is, the combination of the ingredients work to increase the potency of the others. Taking a bottle of 60 pills in a week is not necessary, nor is it recommended by the manufacturer. Every person's body chemistry is different, but I can say with much gratitude and relief that Clarocet made a tremendous difference for me and I never increased beyond the 2 pills a day.

http://www.aragonproducts.com/theproducts.cfm?master=6205&owner=694

Thanks for your input.

Pretty much what I have found out also.

I find that these products aer good for (usually) identifying some of the positive effect products in their ingredients... but if one has serious relief problems that higher doses than what one can reasonable obtain in their pills are needed.

Unless one wants to spend $40- $50 for a five day supply!
