"Thanks/Amoryn Question" , Mon 3 Jan 07:27

I truly appreciate your post and I also think it is very important to catch earlier rather than later. However, I know Amoryn is natural opposed to some of the drugs on the market and I feel like increasing the dose would not be all that big of a deal. I know there are side effects with everything but I believe and have been told they are very light with amoryn. Plus, I play a division one baseball and Divison 1 AA Football so I am constantly working out, going to school, and I have an EXCELLENT family that constantly is there for me. To say the least I am extremely fortunate to be in the situation I am. I have gone through times like this before and seem to always come out of them...but I just thought maybe going from 2 pills a day to 3 or maybe 4 could give this a swift kick in the butt or something. What do you think? thanks a lot everyone.

OCD amongst top athletes is very very very common. Its what makes you so good at what you do :). You clearly are using you OCD positively. I really recommend you get the Mind Over Mood book. I reckon you are already doing techniques yourself but you can hone them further. With practice you can tame that mind of yours. Its easy when you are young to beat yourself up about those thoughts.

Its cool that you have family support and are exercising regularly. That's important.

Im sure your diet is A1, its really important to stabilise your moods from that point of view by having at least 3, better 4-5 small meals with 1/3 protein 1/3 fats and 1/3 carbs from as near to nature as possible. Eggs, Poultry, oily fish, milk, wholegrains, fruit and veg are excellent. Take cod liver oil, ginkgo and vit/min supps as well. Try and keep boozing to nil, if u must max twice a week and no more than 8 units (shots or small glasses of wine) per week, water between each glass. Not eating junk. Caffeine: cut back to mornings, after lunch stick to herbals. Refined sugar is bad news for anxieties such as OCD. Good diet MAKES your neurotransmitters, this over time helps depression and OCD. Did you know the prevalence of low fat diets correlates with Prozac usage over the decade. Fish/seed oils and good fats are very important for mood.

As for SJW at higher doses if u must then titrate up slowly. I am concerned with any youngster (under 30) using SSRIs or SJW. I believe SJW is lesser of 2 evils. I don't think long term (over 1 year) use of SJW or SSRI is a good idea for 90% of people. However there are people who without meds would be dead, this is why I believe good medical supervision is important.

You certainly seem to know alot about Psychiatric illness, there is no doubt about that. I do as well, so we may just be able to complement each other a bit.

I concur with your overall view on this subject, except for one small point. Regardless of a person's age (I'm only 28, by the way), if they develop a problem (regardless of what it is or when it first developed) it is my viewpoint that they must address their condition immediately. A Physician is necessary, I agree 110% there, but if for instance a doctor diagnoses OCD, simply using diet and basic supplementation (vitamins, minerals, amino acids, ONLY IN DAILY VALUE DOSAGE) alone to address this disorder will never succeed in a million years. ESPECIALLY WITH A YOUNGER PERSON THAT IS AN ATHLETE. I am speaking from experience here, as I'm under 30 and a very athletically structured person. I know that with me, just to find any relief whatsoever from anxiety/OCD/ADD... it takes MANY, MANY SUPPLEMENTS! Meds. remember are about 10 times stronger than most any supplement combo., including "Amoryn" (yes, I've used it and had to combine many other things with it, then it began working well.), so this means that if it takes a high dose of an SSRI to address OCD, how in the world can you address it using 2 "Amoryn" caps a day? Belive me, "Amoryn" is just not as strong as the website portrays it to be.

I would advise titrating up to 3 caps a day, and if no response after 1 week, go to 4. If still no response, try combining some L-Theanine with the "Amoryn", or better yet, try the same company's "SEREDYN" in combo. with the "AMORYN"! That will probably hit the receptors just right as it concerns OCD. If still no response, add a little Sam-e to the mix. This may sound like alot, but trust me, it takes alot to address OCD naturally. Weight, muscle mass, metabolism, and activity level also play huge roles.

Finally, be sure you're getting your multi. every day... at least 1 a day!

Hi there,

I found your post when trawling the web looking for people's experiences with Amoryn (there isn't much out there...)
I have been suffering from anxiety and depression for four weeks and have just started a course of supplements which I am hoping will help. I am taking the following each day:

Amoryn
Sam-e
B vitamin complex
Multivitamin

I was just wondering if you thought this was a good combo for anxiety/depression. After one day on the tablets, I had my best night's sleep for ages last night (may be unrelated, its hard to say). But today I have increased depression. I seem to get anxiety one day, depression the next, that seems to have been the cycle of past few weeks. I understand that it will take 4-8 weeks for the amoryn to fully work but I have found I have felt differently immediately after taking the pills. Some good effects, some bad.

I have also ordered Seredyn as well and plan to take this at times of really bad anxiety.

I have also heard of something called GABA which people take in combination with st john's wort, which I have ordered and may take alongside these others as well.

I also start a course of counselling this saturday - do you think this will help?

Any advice greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Hi cyberwonder :)

Yeah u clearly know your stuff.
I think any anxiety including OCD when life ruining usually needs meds. I agree that supplements alone just are too slow to kick in.

All I can add is that I've found Ginkgo 120mg-240mg per day very effective for my anxiety.
I thought it was placebo. But I found out in rats they found it reversibly (doesnt kill MAO) inhibited MAO. So it MAY work like non-reversible (which dangerously kill MAO) MAOI anti-depressants which keep neurotransmitters floating around longer. Like ADs it takes time for Ginkgo to kick in. There are no dietary restrictions, cos its reversible. However a friend who went on it and drinks red wine and has cured meats, chocolate etc complained of headaches, and vivid wierd dreams. Which confirms the side effect profile of MAOIs. Cigarettes act as reversible MAOIs as well by the way. But healthwise is a non no.
Ginkgos main side effects are: dizziness, headaches, blood thinning, anti-coagulant. All but last 2 subside.
It has a shot half life, so twice daily dosing is usually required.
It may all be placebo but it helps me.

I'm interested in the following:

Do you drink alcohol, avoid certain foods?

Have you had fatigue, nausea, loss of appetite, hair loss, acne, weight changes, loss of libido, inabilty to or weakening of orgasm on SJW?

Thanks :)
