Kelly, I hope it is ok that I addressed this to you. I have been taking Walgreen's brand SJW for a few months now, & it was great at first. I had been off Zoloft for several weeks, before I started taking it. After I found your site, I have been reading about Kira (your brand?), Perika, & now it seems that Amoryn is the latest & greatest. I read a few positives about GNC. I realize that everyone is different, but one thing everyone seems to have in common, is searching for a better brand. I'm not looking for a miracle...I just have fatigue, & I have to make myself go through the motions to do anything...I have some good days, but more not so good days. I have been on many anti-depressants, & want to find the best brand of SJW for me...Amoryn, even if it is more expensive, Kira...? Just need a little help. I am not taking prescriptive meds again, for depression, Lord willing! Before I go to GNC, or choose a brand online to order, I would appreciate any experiences you have had, with the brands that you have tried...I thank you! Paula

Hi PJ3!
Honestly I think any brand of SJW can work well, just as long as it's good quality. The problem is that herbs sold in North America, and many other parts of the world, are not regulated and there's no way to guarantee that you're getting what they tell you on the label.
I've personally never tried Amoryn, but I have taken Perika and Kira, as well as Prairie Naturals, Herbal Factors, and various other brands. My own experience is that some of the cheapest brands simply don't work. You'd do well to spend a little bit more, and still you'll save money over the prescription drugs. But I don't think you have to go out and buy the most expensive one either, which Amoryn appears to be. Any of the others should work, give it a shot!

Kelly, 2 questions:
1) I have been taking St. John's Wort for over a year, and after trying various brands, have had by far the best results with 'Kira'. Problem is, whereas I used to be able to find it at Safeway, I now can't find it anywhere (drug stores, specialty health food/supplement stores etc.). Where do you get your supply? 2) After buying 'Swiss' brand St. John's Wort, I have had bad results, it made me feel anxious and very tired and I started feeling more depressed again. You mentioned above that you have tried a brand called 'Herbal Factors', I just bought this a few days ago and the results so far seem to be better. How did this brand work for you?

Just wondering, why did you get off of Zoloft?

I got off Zoloft because, as with all anti-depressants, you are numb. No sexual drive, no emotion, etc. I have been on many different ones over many years and now I'm through with them all.

...
All SSRI's do that. I am doing everything I can not to use another SSRI. They are not safe, IMO.
I can't even get my doctor(s) to give me a trycylic. I don't believe they have more side-effects than SSRI's. I think that the drug companies just want to get people to buy the SSRI's which cost more.
I could only take 6 days of Zoloft...horrible horrible horrible!
