Topic Title: tiredness with SJW (nature's bounty)

hi everybody. i've had depression for a long time and used to take SJW on & off. i tried a few different popular brands like Perika (worked ok, but nothing spectacular). recently i decided to start taking it again, and went through a bottle of nature's way SJW (maker of perika, available at vitacost.com for really cheap). that brand says to take 2 capsules 2 times a day. but since each serving (2 capsules) contains 700 mg, that means you're taking 1400 a day! this is kind of weird to me considering the established "normal" dose is 900 mg
anyway, i decided to try nature's bounty, and was instantly amazed at how well it's working for me. if it continues to work, i want to stay with this brand over any other brand. it's standardized extract, but from the aerial part of the plant rather than stem, leaf and flower like nature's way. i don't know why, but it's working like an absolute dream for me. it's 300 mg per serving (2 capsules), 3 times a day = 900 mg
here's my problem with it though. even though it's working so well, it's making me REALLY tired. i've experienced this some in the past with SJW too. now this is partially a great thing! because i've had insomnia my whole life. the problem is that it's making me sleep literally over 12 hours a night, and of course nobody can do that in today's world. should i take less now and take more later? will i get less sleepy over time? is it related to your body weight? i would like to take it throughout the day (morning, afternoon and evening) because that just seems to make sense. thanks for any advice.

I've only been in SJW for about two weeks but I also noticed that I was really tired/sleepy the first week. It's gotten much better this week already so maybe you have to give your body time to adjust. I started taking one dose (300mg) in the afternoon, and 2 an hour before bedtime.

Hello their, yes maybe it would benefit you to split your dosage to 3 x a day instesd of one dose of it all at once, especially if it is making you sleep longer than you desire to do so as I guess 12 hours is quite a long sleep(depending on quality of sleep you are getting while asleep). I can imagine it is hard to get getting after having quite a solid sleep block. I take my sjw spread over the day and it works well for me as i guess I am getting a steady supply throughout the day. Check this forum out www.uncommonknowledge.co.uk it has a great article on how depressed persons sleep, ie rem sleep and slow wave sleep, it is a real eye opener. It also basically says that depressed persons ruminate more in the day (rumination is go over a lot of the same things in your mind over and over again) hence playing a part in the way we sleep. It has some good information about sleep. I post on their too.

thanks for the replies. yeah actually i've been taking 300 mg at noon, afternoon, and evening. it made me sleep 12 hours for 3 or 4 nights in a row!!! last night i took just took two doses of 300 mg instead, and i slept for 10 hours i think.
so i'll try and take less until maybe i get used to it and up my dosage to 900 mg. i hope that works. i've noticed sleepiness in the past on SJW, but not THIS bad!
