Hi. Mom of large family - feeling depression symptoms the last few months. Yesterday I bought the St John's Wort .3% at Wal-Mart. It is "Spring Valley" brand. Has anyone tried this brand? Should I go for it or return it for a more notable brand? I am personally diagnosing myself with very mild depression - inability to sleep much, "stress" headaches frequently for many months, strange thoughts about death, not feeling "myself" and I'm hoping the St. John's Wort will do the trick without going through the time and cost of our family doctor. Anyone with knowledge about the "Wal-Mart" brand would be Greatly Appreciated!

Hello, Holly! I saw your post here about the Spring Valley brand of SJW, and have tried this particular brand (1997), and can tell you I had great success with it. Spring Valley produces its herbs with strict standards. You'd be surprised, you know, for a Wal-Mart brand. Wal-mart has to compete with some pretty big guns (Walgreen's, herbal mail order). They do a good job. And if you have any questions, you can always call their 800 number. That's what I did, when I had the same questions as you.

I've been using SJW for a year and a half now with great benefit. This is the only brand I've used, so I think it's affective. Also, a good friend of mine takes it as well and has had great results.

I started out taking 2 in the morning and 1 in the late afternoon. Now I reverse it, 1 in the morning and 2 in the early evening. I feel about the same so far. I have not tried coming off SJW and I have been using it for one year and four months straight. Good Luck! CS

I've just started using SJW and find that Spring Valley from Wally World works well for me. I'm in the moderate/major category and noticed a huge difference in just 2-3 days.

I just posted a question about brands, just before your post. I have never read anything in the discussion forum about the brand you have bought. I take the Walgreen brand, which works for me, & I have read some positive posts about it. I was just curious, after taking it for a couple of months, so decided to check in with others, to see if I am missing out...on something even better! SJW really does work, & I take mine at night...all one dosage. I sleep great, & feel happy! You are wise to try this, rather than prescriptive meds! Hope this helps! PJ

I've heard some stuff about generic brands being useless - I think that's even said on this website somewhere - but my experiences tell me otherwise.
For me, the only difference was that the "stronger" brands gave me heart palpatations. Of course, that's just me. I stick with the Wal-Mart brand. It's really all I need.
