Sorry you misunderstand. I too am considering taking Amoryn and was looking for any experiences from anyone who had been taking Amoryn for at least 8 weeks - from previous experience of SJW it takes at least this long to get something like the full effect. I am currently on Perika which I have been taking for 12 weeks or so. Compared with previous brands of SJW that I have tried(Boots, Kira and Holland and Barrett - all for at least 8 weeks) there has been a very definite improvement in my outlook for which I am very grateful, but still not 100% - say around about 80% and still with the odd crappy day thrown in . Like many on this site I continue in search of putting this whole dreadful experience truly behind me so hence my interest in Amoryn. Notwithstanding the above, I would have to recommend anyone with mild/moderate depression to try Perika. Buying from the UK could not be easier, its competively priced and although the other brands I have mentioned may have helped the effect of Perika was marked and definable - at least in my opinion!

hi ... yes, amoryn is wonderful. takes awhile to kick in, i've been on it for 2.5 months and now feel like it's pretty solid. took a long time and i almost gave up a few times. no bad side effects at all. none. i like amoryn because i can feel things - prozac was great but everything was so neutral. amoryn lets you feel without freaking out. you can handle things. amoryn and strong faith in God is the trick.

Hi lindazzleme, I just found this website and found your post interesting. I just started taking amoryn a week ago and wasn't sure if it would do any good (if it was just the next hyped up drug out there). So far so good, but I know it's too early to tell. I'm assuming your female. If this is correct, do you take birth control pills and did you talk to anyone about the possible effect amoryn would have on them? I know there is a warning about making the pill not as effective. I'm only taking 2 pills at night and don't want to go up to 3 or 4. Would just 2 pills of amoryn make birth control not as effective or I'm wondering if this is when you take 4 pills of amoryn a day. Anyone else out there if you have good or bad info about being on amoryn for a few months, I would appreciate it. Personally I am taking it for general/social anxiety. I haven't been diagnosed, but I have a lot of the symptoms, i.e., turning bright red and sweating when called on to speak in front of everyone at a staff meeting or having a meeting with one of the "big bosses" at work that I don't know very well, and just generally being anxious about who I'm going to talk to at social events where I don't know many people. Anyone else having these symtoms too and did amoryn help? Thanks for any info anyone can give me.

Hello! This stuff is all new to me. I am recently diagnosed with dysthymia (long-term mild depression) and also have symptoms of social anxiety (bright red face, sweating, etc..). My therapist wants me to start taking Zoloft, but I'm conserned with the side effects and my husband is conserned with the cost. If anyone can give me some advice on SJW (cost here in the U.S., best brands, effectiveness) I'd be extremely greatful! Thanks for your time!

I just ordered it yesterday. I had bad anxiety a few years ago and was on Paxil. I gained weight and felt that I could do without it so I got off slow and have been for about a year. Rarely had any anxiety and certainly not a Panic Attack in a a couple of years. Well over the last two weeks, I had two miserable days. Last Sunday at church (not sure why but I get such anxiety when I go to church). I never had any bad experiences there - (never an alterboy, no close relations with a priest etc). As a matter of fact, I think turning to God is what made me so strong a few years ago. This past friday I woke up with a lot of nausea. I decided to stay home from work as I feared I may get sick on the way to work (bus). All day I laid in bed aching in my bones and with a very upset stomach. I believe I was a little depressed as well - I hope that wasn't anxiety related. Today Church went good - very anxious before mass but got through OK. After finding this sight, I went to get STW until my Amoryn arrives. Everything was going so good and now these last few weeks were uneasy. I sined up for two Anxiety/Panic workshops for next month. I don't want to go on the meds and certainly don't want to get like I was a few years ago! Talking helps so much so I am sorry for taking the "space". My wife doesn't truely understand but she is genuinely supportive. Thanks for a great Forum!
Jeff

How has your experience with Amoryn been so far? I begin therapy tomorrow with a phsychologist, but am very nervous about taking any prescription med's. Amoryn came up during a search for herbal anxiety help, and then I found this site. Any info you have would be a great help. Thanks.

Jeff,
I've been reading & researching on behalf of my two young children for about 4 years now. I'm no expert by any means, but anxiety, panic attacks and depression as well as other things like obsessive compulsive disorder and restless leg syndrome run in my family. Each person who has struggled with it has had it only mildly, and I probably never would have made any connection (since everyone's family is weird!) if it weren't for my studying for my kids.
All these things have one thing in common; they are linked to a low level of serotonin. (see http://www.diagnose-me.com/cond/C14113.html ). Low levels of serotonin and all the symptoms that go with it runs in families (see http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/3205239.stm ).
You should be able to increase your serotonin with this Amoryn (I just found out about it, I've never used it) as well as eating a well balanced and healthy diet, and getting plenty of good cardio exercise. I've come to believe that those of us who struggle with these things need to be more physically fit than the average person. And sometimes the strangest things can make you feel more alert and happy! I even found eliminating things I'm only mildly allergic to (ie. wheat) within three days cleared up my foggy mind. Now I'm going to the gym and running, and I'm feeling so much better; more alert and calm.
People who have low levels of serotonin find they crave carbohydrates. Carbs (and most particularly sweets like candy) give the brain a quick boost of serotonin, but it only lasts a short time. To boost serotonin, you find yourself either craving sweets or chips and things like that. We're also more prone to self-medicate by taking drugs or alcohol. This new Atkins diet crave has uncovered something they call the "Atkins attitude." Some people on a low-carb diet are finding they are irritable and even having outbursts of rage. They're probably the low-serotonin types who were taking carbs to feel better!
Well, that's enough out of me. It's all so interesting though!
