Topic Title: HBC Protocols

I started 900 mg of HBC Protocols Hypericum Perforatum II 10 days ago. It's an extract with .3% hypericum and 4% or more hyperforin. Has 1mg grape seed extract to help preserve hyperforin stability. The company in CA (hbcstore.com), says this product is 'research grade' and has been used in several studies on SJW. Anyone else used this one? I plan to try it for 8 weeks. So far I've had ups and downs, some tiredness and brain fog so today I switched from 3x/day to all 3 tablets at night.

Hello. I bought the same product and have been using it for around 10 days as well, but I think it's too soon to say anything good (or bad) about it. Isn't it too... black? :) Anyway, it DOES smell like hypericum, for sure. However, most pills mention the amount of Hypercicin contained. This one mentions the amount of Hyperforin. What's the difference? Their whole site (and the brochure that came with the product) gives me an "As seen on TV" feeling... I hope that I am wrong about it and that this product is actually good :)

You're right the tablets are dark and smell strongly - I suspect it's because they're all extract. I prefer them to capsules though. I've read on one of these forums that the latest studies show that it's hyperforin that's more important. I agree the HBC site is a bit commercial (though not the worst I've seen) and I tend to steer away from that. What sold me was their claim that their products have been used in several studies including by the NIH and Columbia U, and have been recommened in the Lancet (well known medical publ) and other publications. Seems legit. Now it's been 2 weeks for me and still too early to tell if it's going to work - I've been fairly depressed this weekend but it's definitely situational for me right now. I'm really hoping the SJW will help - trying to avoid pharmaceuticals and their side effects. I hope you feel better soon!

Well, I have tried capsules in the past (actually, it was hypericum "dust" inside the capsules) and they didn't really do anything. I have been on them for a month and I didn't see the slightest bit of improvement.
As I read on the net (and as you say), it is truly good that it contains 4% minimum of hyperforin. And the grape seed extract is supposed to preserve it.
I completely agree: NO chemicals. At least not before we exaust every other natural possibility.
I went through a very rough patch lately and I needed this product to work... badly! I feel a lot better now, but I can't really say if it's because of the product or because of the time that passed (as you know, we do have some self-healing/forgetting capability :-) )
Also, I'm kind of bipolar (though my depression phases are far worse and far longer than my (hypo)manic phases (I call them serotonin springs ;-) )). Anyway, I'll let you all know if I go (completely) nuts, so that we can update the FAQ about SJW and bipolar disorder! ;-)
I'm wishing good physical and mental health to everybody. Depression is a curse that no one deserves to be under...
