Hiya all -
What brand 5-htp do you take, which other ones have you tried (with/without success), how much do you take, how often, and at what time of day?
It seems from my experience that different brands DO differ, and people have different reactions. Eg I found a couple of years ago taking WholeHealthDiscountCenter 5-htp (100mg 3x daily) made me VERY sleepy. I found MRM to be ok (at same dosage) - less sleepiness, but not sure how effective it really is. I am presently embarking on Biosynergy 5-htp, as it is 'pharmaceutical' quality. I have a feeling if it is 'stronger' I will need to take less. My main problems are continuing depression of an anxious nature with bad insomnia. Nature's Way didn't seem to do much for me, could be the B6 that seems to work for some and not others. Am also continuing to take my 'neuroclear' tablets which are excellent and contain very small amounts of l-tyrosine, l-phenylalanine, DMAE and some herbs and also vitamins. This may be why I'm not falling asleep as before though. Apparently l-tyrosine potentiates the dopamine/norepinephrine boosting effects of 5-htp. This I suppose would mean the serotonin enhancement gets balanced by the dop/norep.
