hi everyone... i've been a knowingly depressed puppy for about 2 years now with severe anxiety. i was on seroxat/paxil for a year before quitting it 4 months ago.. luckily i have not had to go back on it (an amazing achievment in itself i think) i've had hard times recently and felt very depressed again but i've been trying to struggle through. i feel its time to give myself a helping hand and i want to try out SJW properly. i'm not certain what brands are best in the UK, if anyone knows which one is best it'd be great to find out. should i be taking 3 capsules of 0.3% concentration? many thanks, hope everyone is cool

Good response from Splash. I've tried H&B (OK), Boots (not) and eventually moved to Healthspan (excellent). But as Slash says, it varies from person to person.

Hi, I too live in the UK and if I had to recommend a brand it would have to be Perika. Here is a summary of how I got there. About 6 months ago I started on Holland & Barretts SJW (3 x 300mg). After about a month I found it did help in relieving some of the symptoms of my depression but there were lots of ups and down. After about 12 weeks I changed to Boots own brand (again 3 x300mg) but I got nothing from them and therefore went back to H&Bs SJW. Finally at the begining of December after much research and a lot of trawling through the posts on this site I Changed to Perika. Since then I have noticed a slow but steady improvement
Nothing changed for the first 2 weeks then I noticed there were more better days and even most (not all) of the not so good days did not have the same depth of feeling. There has continued to be a slow improvement (now on week 6) and hopefully there is some more improvement to come as levels of SJW stablise in my system. I have yet to find a UK supplier but I use iherb.com which take about 10 days to deliver, although I notice they now have an extra procedure regarding use of credit cards for non US residents.
Finally you are correct that the normal dose is 3 x 300 mg standardised to 0.3% hypericum although there is considerable debate and some good evidence that it may well be another element in SJW, hyperforin, which is the active ingredient and indeed Perika is standardised to 0.3% of this element. If you want to find out more just trawl through the posts on this site.
Hope this is of some help and if you do try it, do not give up too early and if that does'nt work be prepared to change brands.

Hi
I've been taking SJW since last October and bought some from Holland & Barrett - think they were Nature's Way(??) and bought them because they were on special offer. 60 in a bottle and can't remember how many I took a day or what they recommended but it was more than 1 a day. When they ran out I bought Asda's own brand which are 1 a day (dictated by price). I didn't notice any difference when I swapped brands.
I'm not sure though if the Asda ones are the right dose. It says 340mg, 1 a day. Each tablet provides the following:
Active ingredient Standardised Extract of SJW (Hypericum Perforatum) 340mg providing total Hypericins 1000ug
They do not mention hyperforin.
If I take more than 1 a day as stated on the pack, will I be exceeding the recommended dosage?
Thanks
